Clinical Director and/or Team Leader/Staff Nurse. Receives direction from assigned Registered Nurse. Works as a member of the health care team.

DEFINITION OF POSITION
-
The Student Nurse Apprentice is responsible for administering direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Student Nurse Apprentice interacts with unit staff members, patients, patient's family members, and other departments to ensure the comfort and safety for all patients on the unit. The Student Nurse Apprentice performs skills approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and as delegated by the RN. The Student Nurse Apprentice functions are limited to those as defined under the NCBON as unlicensed personnel.
The following criteria must be met before delegation of any task:
The designated task must be a task which has been taught in the academic program and the student nurse extern has demonstrated competence to a Registered Nurse.
Task is performed frequently in the daily care of a client or group of clients
Task is performed according to an established sequence of steps
Task may be performed with a predictable outcome
Task does not involve on-going assessment, interpretation or decision-making that cannot be logically separated from the task itself.

QUALIFICATIONS

Professional
-
Completion of the junior year of a nationally accredited baccalaureate nursing program or completion of the second semester of an accredited Associate Degree Nursing program.

Two instructor references attesting to successful experiences in clinical areas.

Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification through the American Heart Association.

Maintains listing with the North Carolina Board of Nursing as a Nurse Aide I or II

Student in good standing with a GPA minimum of 2.5
