Assistant Professor, Mathematics

Carthage College
Kenosha, WI Contractor
POSTED ON 1/22/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/20/2025

Seeking applicants for an Assistant Professor of Mathematics position with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2025. We seek an educator to teach courses in undergraduate mathematics, with an emphasis on statistics. The position will be a multi-year renewable contract with an initial term of three years.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will teach courses including a variety of statistics offerings, from elementary to advanced level, both general and targeted (e.g., courses required for business or nursing majors). Carthage faculty have recently developed alternatives for some of these standard courses; such innovation in course design and pedagogy is welcomed. Other teaching assignments will depend on departmental needs and candidate specialty; flexibility to teach across the mathematics and data science curriculum is desired. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or M.S. in Mathematics or Statistics and a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and supporting a diverse student population.

The expected teaching load is 32 credits or generally eight four-credit courses per year, one of which may take place during our intensive January term. A course release for other significant work may be possible depending on institutional needs. Carthage's Math Department offers majors in Mathematics and Data Science and supports students in programs across the college, including a new engineering program. More information about our department may be found at http://www.carthage.edu/mathematics/.

Interested candidates should submit a single PDF file including a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, and the names and contact information of three professional references. Additional questions about this position can be directed to Dr. Haley Yaple math-search@carthage.edu. Review of applications will begin March 3 and will cease once the position is filled.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requirements met for a Ph.D. or M.S. in Mathematics or Statistics by August 2025
  • Commitment to innovative development of curriculum or pedagogical practices in mathematics education
  • Demonstrated record of or potential for successful undergraduate mathematics instruction
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting and improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom
