POWER PLANT DISPATCHER APPRENTICE I

Job Description

Summary:

The Power Plant Dispatcher Apprentice I is responsible for learning the duties and responsibilities of Carthage Water and Electric Plant’s (CWEP) Power Plant Dispatcher. This position reports to the Power Plant Operations Manager and works closely with maintenance/operations personnel for effective operations of the plant.

Below are the duties performed by the Power Plant Dispatcher in which the POWER PLANT DISPATCHER APPRENTICE I will be expected to learn. They include, but are not limited to:

QUALIFICATIONS:

• REQUIRED: Must live within 15 minutes of 300 S. River St., Carthage MO

Education and Experience:

• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Secondary education and/or previous experience in related field is highly preferred.

Job Responsibilities:

• Learns how to schedule and manage power supply to meet the load on the CWEP electric system.
• Learns how to operate CWEP’s electric generators.
• Learns how to perform outage management activities, such as answering trouble calls, dispatching crews and communicating with management during outage situations.
• Learns how to operate the water treatment plant.
• Performs any other tasks that may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• General knowledge of electricity including generation and distribution.
• General knowledge of diesel engines as well as other mechanical equipment (air compressors, pumps, water systems, electrical systems, meters, etc.).
• Experience using basic office equipment.
• Knowledge of basic safety principles including electrical safety.
• Must be able to communicate effectively.
• Must be able to work a variable, 12-hour days and nights on a rotating, 7 on/7 off schedule. Initial schedule will vary for training purposes.
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays and overtime.
• Must be able to maintain composure in high stress situations.
• Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work with limited supervision.
• Must demonstrate basis computer skills, specifically with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, etc.).
• Must practice proper radio and phone etiquette and be able to interact with others in a courteous manner.
• Must be able and willing to attend training deemed necessary by management.
• Must meet the current residency requirements in CWEP’s personnel policy manual.
• Must take pride in serving your community.

Licensing/Certification

• Must have or acquire a valid class E driver’s license.
• Must obtain required Missouri water operator certifications.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Frequent periods of sitting and standing; agility and dexterity with hands; see with near and far acuity; hearing proficiency.
• Occasional outside work.
• Occasional heavy lifting.
