The Opportunity
Carver Companies is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Human Resources to lead and evolve our HR function across all business units in the U.S. and Canada. Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer (CLO), the Director of HR will oversee a small but dedicated HR team based in Albany, NY, and Charleston, SC, supporting a diverse, multi-site workforce.
This role requires a proactive leader who anticipates organizational needs, develops innovative HR strategies, and ensures that HR practices align with Carver’s business goals. The Director of HR will play a pivotal role in talent acquisition, employee engagement, organizational development, and compliance while fostering a high-performance culture throughout the company. Occasional domestic and international travel will be required to maintain alignment across all operations.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership
- Develop and execute an HR strategy that aligns with Carver Companies' business objectives across all U.S. and Canadian operations.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, and talent management.
- Proactively identify and implement HR initiatives that support company growth, operational excellence, and employee engagement.
- Oversee recruitment strategies to attract and retain top talent, with a focus on industrial and skilled labor markets.
- Develop workforce development programs, including partnerships with trade schools and local educational institutions across all regions.
- Lead performance management and employee development programs that foster growth and leadership readiness.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment through effective employee relations and engagement strategies.
- Implement initiatives to improve employee satisfaction, retention, and collaboration across all locations.
- Provide guidance and support on conflict resolution, performance improvement, and employee concerns.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws in the U.S. and Canada.
- Develop and maintain HR policies and procedures that support legal compliance and industry best practices.
- Partner with operations leadership to promote a culture of workplace safety and compliance.
- Lead and mentor the HR team across multiple locations, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
- Evaluate and enhance HR systems, processes, and technologies to improve efficiency and decision-making.
- Manage compensation and benefits programs to remain competitive within the industrial sector.
- Partner with senior leadership and operational teams to address workforce needs and align HR strategies with business goals.
- Collaborate with other departments to support organizational initiatives and drive company-wide engagement.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a related field. A Master’s degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) is preferred.
- Experience: 8-10 years of progressive HR leadership experience, including 3-5 years managing HR teams in industrial, construction, manufacturing, or related sectors.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead multi-site HR teams and align HR initiatives with business strategy.
- Strategic Thinking: Experience developing and executing HR strategies that drive business performance.
- Compliance Knowledge: Deep understanding of employment laws and regulatory compliance in the U.S. and Canada.
- Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders across regions.
- Travel: Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally to support Carver operations. A valid passport is required.
- Strategic Leadership: Shape and implement HR strategies that impact a growing, multi-location organization.
