What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Safety Answering Point Supervisor position at Carver County?
The emergency dispatch center is a 24/7/365 operation. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays, and be adaptive to shift work. May be called upon outside of regular shift hours to respond to extreme emergency events.
In-person interviews for this position will be held on Tuesday, February 4 at the Chaska Justice Center.
• Assist the Communications Services Manager with oversight of the daily operations of the communications center to include county radio system, telephone system, mobile data communications network, Sheriff's Office wireless communications, and other equipment used by the communications center.
• Supervises Public Safety Telecommunicator staff and assigned unit employees to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff training; ensuring staff follows applicable laws, ordinances, procedures, rules, regulations, directives, and policies; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; making hiring and termination recommendations, and implementing and approving progressive discipline from oral to written reprimands when appropriate. Coordinates and participates in daily assignments which include staff scheduling; monitoring performance; reviewing employee work product; handling complex situations or cases; and/or performing specialized duties or projects related to assigned unit.
• Performs the duties of a Public Safety Telecommunicator; preparing and handling routine and complex emergency calls and situations while following applicable laws, ordinances, procedures, rules, regulations, directives, and policies. Communicates with the general public on public safety related matters.
• Supervise the warrants process, provide work direction to the Warrants Specialist, train dispatchers in various warrants duties, and ensure warrants handling occurs within mandated timelines.
• Supervise and maintain the Communications Training Officer Program and ensure that the Communications Training Officers have appropriate training, certifications and knowledge of Sheriff's Office policies, procedures and Office standards.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Prepares for and responds to emergency situations.
• Responsible for investigating complaints from staff, the general public and other agencies served by the Sheriff's Office using knowledge of state statutes, laws, employee labor agreements, county and Sheriff's Office policies and procedures and recommend disposition of said complaints.
• Performs other duties of a similar or comparable level.
• Represent the interests of Carver County PSAP at professional County, Metro and State Board meetings when assigned
•High School Diploma/GED and five (5) years of full-time paid work experience in a 911 or Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Secondary PSAP
or
•Associates Degree and three (3) years of full-time paid work experience in a 911 or Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Secondary PSAP
or
• High School Diploma/GED, three (3) years of full-time paid work experience in a 911 or Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Secondary PSAP and two (2) years of supervisory experience in any field
or
• Associates Degree, one (1) year of full-time paid work experience in a 911 or Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) or Secondary PSAP, and two (2) years of supervisory experience in any field
or• Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of supervisory experience
and
•Valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, CJIS background investigation, psychological evaluation, and pre-placement physical.
Salary : $33 - $50
