The Coordination chemist applies scientific expertise, analytical skills, problem solving capabilities, and relevant language skills to help build CAS’s world-class collection of chemical information data. They leverage their education and specialized training to curate high-quality research data from patents from 64 patent offices, thousands of journals, technical reports, books, conference proceedings and dissertations published in 180 countries and in more than 50 languages. The role may include indexing substance and reaction data found in patents, journals, and other chemistry-related literatures. The incumbent may also provide scientific and content knowledge, capabilities, insights, and solutions for other CAS functions.

The incumbent may also provide scientific and content knowledge, capabilities, insights, and solutions for other CAS functions.
Job Duties
- Analyzes, collects, and curates the valuable chemical structure data disclosed in patent or journal publications, utilizing CAS indexing policies and their expertise.
- Leverages technical knowledge and applicable language skills to extract key insights and build the CAS Content Collection.
- Strong knowledge of CAS database building policies for organometallic and/or inorganic coordination compounds.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience building scientific databases
- An advanced degree in Organometallic/Inorganic/Coordination Chemistry or a related scientific field is preferred. Alternatively, a bachelor's degree with 10 years of related work experience.
- Chinese, Japanese, or Korean language skill is desired, but not required.
- Excellent scientific reading comprehension and writing skills.
- Ability to learn policies, work habits, insights, and tool usage from trainers to foster quality and productivity in their work and to serve as a resource in areas of specialty.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated change agility skills to anticipate workflow problems and formulate opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with peers and management executing change.
- Demonstrated competence in anticipating & identifying impacts of changes on areas of expertise as well as other areas of CAS.
