The Medical Assistant at Casa de Salud embraces our model of providing primary care with love and dignity for all in an environment that is especially responsive to low-income, Spanish-speaking and marginalized residents of Albuquerque, Los Lunas, and surrounding communities.
Medical Assistants at Casa de Salud support clinicians to provide high quality acute and chronic healthcare to clients, as well as perform a range of office-based medical procedures to support clinic flow and patient communications. They work with patients dealing with opioid use disorder and who are prescribed buprenorphine medication treatment as well as with those seeking gender-affirming care and harm reduction services.
The Medical Assistant works under close supervision of the Clinical Manager and works closely with the Senior Clinic Flow Coordinator and Medical Scheduler.
The following encompasses the general scope and role of the Medical Assistant:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Modeling professional behavior, high level of safety, and performance as measured by punctuality, integrity, consistency and mastery of duties and responsibilities.
- Actively participating in daily huddles, monthly staff meetings, and weekly clinical operations team meetings.
- Teaching health apprentices specific clinical skills and providing feedback to staff for use in program management decisions
- Serving as a role model and mentor to apprentices, navigating weekly apprentice staffing
- Providing apprentices with constructive feedback
- Patient registration, scheduling, over-the-phone communication, clinical documentation, use of an electronic medical records system, patient fee collection
- Obtaining patient vital signs, providing harm reduction supplies to clients, performing blood draws and point of care lab tests, performing EKGs and other procedures, rooming patients, stocking supplies, prepping/cleaning exam rooms on a daily basis
- Supporting clinicians with flow, restocking, and patient care needs including referrals/follow up
- Supporting the work of the Strong Roots program for people dealing with addictions
- Representing Casa de Salud at events and in meetings as requested
Hours, Compensation, and Benefits
This position is an employed position at 40 hours per week. Schedule of work is Monday - Friday during normal business hours with occasional hours on evenings or weekends for special events.
