POSITION SUMMARY:

This Payroll Tech position involves a broad program of responsibilities and performs difficult and important tasks requiring a thorough knowledge of school district personnel policies. Involves complex bookkeeping and clerical duties related to payroll.


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Required high school diploma or GED and five (5) years payroll or bookkeeping experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Tyler Technologies “Visions” software experience preferred
  • TimeClock Plus software experience preferred
  • Procient in a Windows environment and have knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must know payroll accounting according to USFR and be able to keep systematic payroll records


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assumes responsibility for processing bi-weekly payroll and issues payroll checks
  • Sets employees up for direct deposits
  • Maintains documentation relating to tax and voluntary deductions from salaries, absenteeism and vacations, and comp time
  • Computes employee premiums under the group life and health insurance programs for billing purposes
  • Communicates with Pinal County Superintendent of Schools Office relative to procedural changes
  • Administers and oversees the time and attendance system (TimeClock Plus)
  • Maintains and promotes good employee relations
  • Computes wages and deductions and posts to payroll records
  • Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll
  • Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records
  • Keeps records of leave pay and nontaxable wages
  • Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, and union dues to be withheld, and employee identifcation number, from time sheets and other records
  • Prepares periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions
  • Computes balance of contracts for certifed
  • Sends file to County for final processing
  • Completes ASRS reports Handles garnishments
  • Ensures all voluntary deductions from payroll are coded and deducted according to district policies and procedures
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. The employee must use hands, arms and fingers to input data, handle, feel or reach. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 20 lbs such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Occasional travel may be required for site visits, meetings, trainings and/or conferences. Locations may vary and may require overnight stays.
