POSITION:                                   ESS Paraeducator Level II 

LOCATION:                                 District Wide – As Assigned 

REPORTS TO:                             Building Administrator or Designee 

 

JOB GOAL: 

  • To assist the teacher with the learning process of students with special needs in the classroom. 

 

  • This level of paraeducator will work within classrooms that support students with both cognitive and behavioral needs.? Staff may also be required to support health needs like transferring and increased supervision to reduce the staff-to-student ratio.? PARA Level 2’s will also implement behavior plans that may include safe transport and de-escalation techniques included in student behavior plans.?? Classroom staff to student ratios range from 1:10 to 1:4 (Billing capability)? 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Qualifications to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to be successful: 

  • High School Diploma or GED and  
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card 
  • 60 College Credits or Passing Grade on ParaPro Test

  • Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time; Ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time. 
  • Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments; commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate personnel with an alternate plan. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Creates a learning environment by helping students with class work including tutoring, monitoring and instruction. 
  • May assist the teacher and students with moving desks, chairs and other furniture to create a positive learning environment for students. 
  • Assist with attendance, classroom management and other duties as required to ensure learning in the classroom. 
  • Makes copies for class assignments. 
  • Escorts students to other classrooms or the front office when necessary. 
  • Stand in hallways between classes to assist with student movement. 
  • Assists with other student needs which may include feeding and changing students.  

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  

  • 9-month contract, Hourly/Non-Exempt position under FLSA.  Placement on Classified salary schedule by the Director of Support Services dependent upon education and experience 
  • Benefits – All approved benefits for Classified Employees 
  • Must pass Department of Public Safety Fingerprint clearance check. 
  • Must be United States citizen or have valid work visa at date of hire with the ability to maintain. All changes in visa status must be reported to Human Resources immediately. Photo identification and work visa, (if necessary), will be needed for fingerprint clearance card and I-9 documentation prior to the first day of work. 

 

EVALUATION: 

  • Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on the Evaluation of Classified Personnel. 

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION: 

  • Proof of Mumps, Measles and Rubella, (MMR) vaccination. 
  • Valid government issued identification or current work visa with expiration date. 
  • Unofficial copies of transcripts will be accepted with applications, official transcripts will be due upon job offer* 

 

* Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation, (word for word) by an acceptable translator. Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework by an acceptable agency such as those agencies certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, (NACES). Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.
