Laundry Aide :
Position Summary : The Laundry Aide position exists to provide routine support in the environmental service of residents, to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times. This position must work effectively with team members in ensuring that work is accomplished in a timely, effective, well organized, and safe manner, while focusing on delivering quality resident care. The position must also manage the resources that are available to them in their job.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Perform all daily laundering functions.
2. Follow daily laundering schedule as directed.
3. Pick up all laundry articles including all residents personal articles.
4. Use washing and drying machines.
5. Check, pull, and put away all stock. Maintain organization of all areas where stock / supplies are kept.
6. May be required to tag personal articles for residents in order to clearly identify
7. May be required to periodically clean washing and drying machine filters
8. Create a clean, comfortable, and safe environment, and assure that the highest quality of service is delivered.
9. Begin every shift with appropriate personal preparations. Utilize proper personal protective 10. equipment when handling soiled linen.
11. Demonstrate proper hand washing technique. Maintain physical environment in a clean, safe, and pleasant manner. Promptly report any violations of established safety procedures.
12. Attend and participate in scheduled training, education classes, and orientation programs to maintain and enhance quality of care. Attend all required in-service and training programs required within your department. Attend any mandatory meeting as required by your center.
13. Perform other related activities as assigned or requested.
14. Maintain and work within established departmental, center, and corporate policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
15. Promptly reports any suspected resident abuse, neglect or misappropriation to the DON.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or G. E. D. equivalent
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
1. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
2. Understanding of resident rights and care procedures and standards, within the scope of environmental service Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action,
3. Prior experience in a healthcare environment is desirable.
4. Ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
5. Ability and willingness to work harmoniously with all staff.
6. Must have patience, tact, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
7. Willingness and ability to be flexible in new methods and principles, as well as willingness to incorporate them into existing environmental service practices.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Work environment
2. May work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary. May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
3. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc. throughout the workday.
4. Ability to move (sit, stand, bend, lift) intermittently throughout the workday.
5. Ability to lift, push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
6. Ability to handle multiple tasks, in a fast-paced environment.
7. Ability to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile residents or family members at the center Ability to function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and ability to work effectively with residents, staff, and support agencies.
8. In good health and demonstrating emotional stability.
9. Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stresses of the position. . Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
10. Ability to see and hear or use prosthetic that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
