Responsibilities
The Communications Specialist serves as the primary writer, editor, photographer, webmaster, social media manager, and creative director for graphic design at Casa San Jose. Because of the needs of the community we serve, only bilingual candidates English-Spanish will be considered for this post. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for:
- Design a strategic social media plan that promotes Casa San Jose's work and respond to rapid-changing information.
- Manage, draft, and produce culturally relevant content for Casa San Jose's social media channels both in English and Spanish. Including visually compelling graphics and video content.
- Work closely with Casa's staff to write compelling, creative and engaging content for all social media channels and the website. Applying a racial justice lens to all Casa's online communications with an increased emphasis on Latinx immigrants and immigration issues.
- Monitor all social media channels on a daily basis and respond in a timely manner to the questions and comments from the audience.
- Attend Casa San Jose's events (youth programs, community meetings, award ceremonies, etc) to ensure graphic coverage, photos and videos.
- Manage and implement fund raising efforts on social media including Facebook, Fundraisers and Givegab.
- Administrate Casa San Jose's website on Word press.
- Create promotional materials for Casa's events as needed.
- Media monitoring of Casa San Jose's work. Keep an updated database with media coverage.
- Establish contact with mass media to ensure media coverage of Casa's work.
- Respond to requests for information from the media or designate an appropriate spokesperson or information source.
- Attend tabling sessions and other events to promote Casa's work and support from allies.
- Maintain an updated database of subscribers to the newsletter on Mailchimp.
- Work jointly with the Assistant Volunteer Coordinator, to produce written and graphic content for the Amigo's newsletter.
- Confer with other managers to identify trends or key group interests or concerns or to provide advice on business decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor degree in communications or related field, or proven four years of experience in communications and public relations.
- Two years of experience in non-profit and/or marketing/communications is preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish. REQUIRED
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- A strong understanding of Facebook, Twitter, and lnstagram, as well as Wordpress.
- Experience with digital photography, graphic design and video production.
- A strong understanding of social issues affecting immigrant communities in the US, especially Latinx communities is a plus.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with macOS (iMovie, QuickTime Player),
- Microsoft Office applications and Google Suite. Comfort with databases and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills.
- A positive team player with a passion for progressive change.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills are required.
Job Type: Full-time
