At a minimum, all qualified applicants must have:
Education/Experience/Training:
- High School Diploma, HSE or GED and five (5) years operating digital/high speed copiers, scanners and bindery equipment or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s License issued by the State of Montana or the ability to obtain one within thirty (30) days of hire.
JOB SUMMARY
The Digital Print Operator (Operator) is responsible for operating a variety of digital printing and finishing equipment utilized in the operation of the Cascade County Print Shop (Print Shop) to provide a variety of printing services for all County offices and departments, the City of Great Falls and other outside agencies. The Operator is responsible for the retrieval, storage , and conversion of electronic files submitted for reproduction, making equipment and computer interface adjustments, imposing layout structure, proper operation and normal operator maintenance of all digital printing equipment, operation and all technical aspects of the finishing equipment such as bindery, punching, cutting, collating, drilling, padding, folding, shrink wrapping, perforating, die-cutting, labeling, inserting, and scoring equipment. The Operator is further responsible for placing equipment service calls, interacting with vendor service providers, maintaining files relating to print jobs and printing materials as directed on print tickets, monitoring equipment during operation to ensure proper operation of equipment and maintain copy quality, monitoring inventory and ordering of supplies, maintaining records of goods produced, supplies used and production costs, completing cleaning tasks associated with the Print Shop, and distributing/delivering the finished product The Operator is responsible for accepting, verifying, classifying, and computing postage on all classes of domestic and international bulk business mail, sorting and processing outgoing bulk mail and providing direction and assistance to customers to ensure that customers understand bulk mail postal mailing standards, bulk mail preparation requirements and methods of presentation. The Operator shall perform other duties as required or assigned as necessary to support the operational needs of the Print Shop and the County’s bulk mailings needs; The Operator works under the general supervision of the Elections Administrator who assigns work, sets goals and reviews work for accuracy and conformance to departmental and job specification standards and provides guidance for independent judgment and decision making in accordance with established elections standards and practices and all applicable local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations, as well as County policy and those policies and procedures established by the Elections Administrator. This position requires long hours for extended periods and the potential of working through weekends when needed. The nature of the work performed requires strict adherence to deadlines and initiative in identifying and noting customer’s needs and preferences The nature of the work performed requires the skill and ability to work with and maintain the confidentiality of confidential and sensitive material and to work in and adapt to a rapidly changing environment while maintaining professional and effective working relationships with other County departments and offices, various agencies, organizations and the public.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Advises County offices and departments, the City of Great Falls and other outside agencies on printing options and assists with layout designs; Evaluates job orders and specifications to determine details such as number of materials to be printed, special printing instructions, stock specifications, time given for collections and color sequences and organizes schedules and prepares printing orders; Provides necessary digital reproduction, binding and distribution services to support the production of individual print jobs in a technically accurate and timely manner; Effectively, efficiently operates high-speed digital copiers, wide format printers, scanners, document transfer devices, print production workflow, Adobe plugins, variable data and fiery software; Retrieves customer files from web-to-print workflow software, setup, adjust, and operates equipment for individual print jobs; Provides routine preventative maintenance, trouble shooting, diagnosis of equipment malfunctions, performs minor repairs and other non-contracted maintenance on equipment; schedules contracted service and maintenance and maintains service/maintenance records; Operates bindery equipment: paper cutter, folder, laminator, hydraulic drill, perforator/scorer, tabber, and plastic comb bind/punch; Performs incidental hand tasks such as collating, gluing, jogging, trimming, padding, mounting on foam core boards, as well as assembling, stuffing and properly, packaging/addressing envelopes and boxes for distribution; Loads, unloads, moves or stacks paper, supplies, and printed materials by hand, forklift, hand truck, or other available equipment; Accurately maintains necessary filing of required hardcopies/proofs and electronically archived files according to established procedures; Maintains professional customer relations, assist customers promptly and courteously, responds to customer inquiries, and notifies customers of job completion; Communicates to customers proper procedures for transferring files to the Print Shop, receives work orders from customers, ensures the requests are complete and accurate, confirms all electronically submitted jobs are in a usable file format, screens each job for possible sensitive, copyrighted or mailing status, and follows up with customer or other approval authorities as required for approval prior to delivery for printing; Accurately and timely logs work orders into the active billing system and assists with performing monthly billing to all customers for printing services provided and forwards information onto the County’s Accounting Department for inter-service billing and bills outside agencies; Accurately records statistical data for production, maintenance, bindery and distribution activities; Maintains accurate, sufficient inventory of stock and supplies and communicates re-order requirements to the Elections Administrator in a timely fashion; Collects random samples and inspects them during print runs to determine if any adjustments or corrections need to be made and makes any necessary adjustments or corrections; As part of the finish work, reviews and checks printed materials for clarity, accuracy, quality, finishing and other production factors; Maintains current vendor information and assists with performing bids, requests for proposals, solicitations and quotes for the procurement of Print Shop goods and services; Accepts, verifies, classifies, and computes postage on all classes of domestic and international bulk business mail, sorts and processes outgoing bulk mail and provides direction and assistance to customers to ensure that customers understand bulk mail postal mailing standards, bulk mail preparation requirements and methods of presentation; Uses automated equipment to sort outgoing bulk mail and ensures all necessary support equipment and materials are organized for sorting; Maintains an organized, safe and healthy work and shop environment, ensuring strict compliance with all safety, security, cleanliness, environmental and HAZMAT/OSHA regulations; Performs other duties as required or assigned.

The successful applicant shall serve a 6-month probationary period and will have a criminal background check conducted. The results thereof may disqualify the applicant from consideration for employment with the County.
