Summary
The Athletic Trainer will play a key role in assisting the Orthopedic Surgeon in clinic by supporting medical documentation, providing wound care, casting, splinting, patient education, and assisting in minor surgical procedures. The position ensures efficient patient flow and high-quality orthopedic care.
For certified scrub techs in Oregon, additional surgical scrub responsibilities include preparing and maintaining sterile fields, handing instruments during surgery, assisting with wound closure preparation, and supporting post-operative care under physician supervision.
As a DME Supervisor, the Athletic Trainer also oversees DME inventory management, orders supplies, and trains staff on proper fitting, application, and patient education regarding durable medical equipment (DME).
Primary Responsibilities
Clinic Responsibilities
- Assist the Orthopedic Surgeon in clinic with medical documentation, wound care, casting, splinting, patient education, and support in minor surgical procedures.
- Perform casting, splinting, and removal of sutures and staples.
- Take and record vital signs, assist in crutch fitting, and manage pre/post-procedure care.
- Prepare and sterilize medical instruments and maintain clinical workflow.
- Conduct post-op patient communication, including follow-up calls and visits to assess recovery, address concerns, and reinforce care instructions.
Surgical Scrub Tech Duties (If Certified)
- Prepare and maintain sterile surgical environments.
- Pass instruments, retract tissue, and assist in procedural tasks as a surgical scrub tech.
- Ensure compliance with sterile technique and surgical protocols.
- Support post-operative wound care and assist in patient recovery education.
- Company will assist in covering certification costs for employees who qualify for Surgical Scrub Tech training.
DME Supervisor Duties
- Manage DME inventory, ensuring availability of necessary supplies.
- Order and track DME products, maintaining cost efficiency and compliance.
- Train clinical staff on proper DME fitting, application, and patient education.
- Ensure adherence to insurance guidelines and prior authorization requirements.
Clerical Duties
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist in real-time medical documentation.
- Support scheduling, manage referrals, and verify insurance authorizations.
- Process prescriptions and triage patient inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards and medical supply management.
Qualifications
- BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
- Oregon AT Licensure (Preferred)
- Surgical Scrub Tech Certification (Preferred for Surgical Duties)
- Company will assist in covering certification costs for employees who qualify for Surgical Scrub Tech training.
- DME Experience Preferred (Inventory Management, Patient Education)
- CPR Certification
- Strong communication, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
