The International Student Advisor (ISA) reports to the Assistant Director of International Advising. This position is primarily responsible for functions relating to international student admissions, immigration and academic advising, Designated School Official duties, and international student activities and excursions that foster student engagement. The ISA may also serve as advisor to student clubs and will support the success of the clubs and its students. The ISA will coordinate the dissemination of college and program information to relevant constituents by a variety of appropriate means, including but not limited to print and electronic media, particularly on-line social media, where Cascadia International Programs will have an attractive presence to prospective international students. The position requires the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, administration, and Community-Based organizations and vendors to ensure successful learning opportunities.
As the International Student Advisor, it is expected that the following qualities will be demonstrated daily: a high degree of understanding and empathy for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors, as well as the ability to encourage the inclusion of all voices in decision-making, promoting equity in all areas, and actively working against institutionalized norms of oppression against historically marginalized people.

Initial Salary: $70,140.47 (includes 5% King County Premium Pay)
Supervising Position: Assistant Director of International Advising
Essential Duties
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for Cascadia College by creating and updating student records in SEVIS and independently monitoring international students and advising them in all rules, regulations, laws, policies and procedures relevant to their maintaining student status.
- Perform academic advising and support students in both English Foundations Program (EF), Associates, and Bachelors level. Assist students in the development of their educational plans and university transfer planning. Develop, organize and conduct workshops and other events for EF, Associates, and Bachelors level students.
- Act as the lead advisor for assigned international student programs, collaborating on student support initiatives such as orientation and other programming.
- May supervise student employees in the performance of their work, including training, assigning tasks, and providing feedback.
- Contribute to a welcoming International Programs environment for all Cascadia constituents and assist in ensuring a consistently excellent operation of the International Programs office.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
- One year performing the tasks and functions of a Designated School Official (DSO) in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS)
- One year of experience directly and regularly advising international students in a higher education setting
- Demonstrated experience with initiating, planning, developing, executing and assessing successful activities, events and/or opportunities that foster community-building, teamwork and collaboration, global/cultural awareness, environmental sensitivity, and/or personal development
- Demonstrated commitment to and interest in diversity, equity and inclusion and the ability to support a multicultural workplace and educational environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Development, Counseling, or a related field
- Direct experience with Washington States ctcLink system
- Experience working or studying in another country
- Demonstrated strong written communication skills
- Language proficiency in Korean, Vietnamese, Portuguese, French or Russian
Physical Work Environment
Semi-Sedentary Work: Involves staying in a stationary position to a significant degree. Jobs are sedentary if moving is required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
The College is currently in hybrid operations, with many assignments completed in an online environment during this time. Full-time employees are expected to be on-campus at least three (3) days per week with the option to work remotely for the remainder of their working days. Employees will need to provide their own remote workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. During on-campus operations, this position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus and requires the ability to communicate in person or through appropriate means.
Positions in this class typically require operating a computer, communicating, observing, and repetitive motions.
This position involves exerting between 10-30 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to transport, put, install, remove, or otherwise move objects, with or without reasonable accommodation.
