Job Description: To serve all speech/language pathologist responsibilities for CASE Collaborative, including all appropriate planning, instruction, and assessment for students with communication disorders enrolled in the Collaborative; to work collaboratively with parents/guardians and colleagues to address the speech and/or language needs of students with communication disorders. Experience with AAC assessments and devices preferred. Responsibilities/Duties: - Develop and implement a schedule for students' therapy sessions, in accordance with their IEP service delivery. - Provide one-to-one and small group speech/language therapy to students with identified communication disorders in the areas of receptive language, expressive language, pragmatic language, articulation, fluency, voice, and/or medically diagnosed hearing impairment. - Select appropriate therapy programs and methodologies, plan, and implement therapy that matches students’ IEP goals and objectives. - Assess and maintain data on progress of all students on caseload and differentiate student goals and instruction accordingly. - Participate in Team reevaluation and annual review meetings for students on caseload and write speech/language therapy components, including goals, for eligible students’ IEPs. - Assess students, based on appropriate assessments, write reports and present at Team reevaluation meetings. - Complete data informed progress reports for all students, according to schedules set by Collaborative, host school, and special education regulations. - Consult with parents/guardians, classroom teachers, other therapists, special educators, school nurses, and teaching assistants regarding students’ speech/language development and the impact of their speech/language needs on their academic and social performance. - Develop and implement classroom and curricular accommodations and modifications regarding accommodations and modifications relevant to students’ speech/language/hearing needs. - Maintain and use adaptive equipment and materials (e.g., FM systems for students with hearing impairments). - Serve as a contact to private speech therapists and specialists, when appropriate. - Provide communication to parents/guardians of students on caseload (e.g. parent-teacher conferences, email, telephone contact). - Complete necessary ordering and purchasing for speech/language evaluations and therapy; complete budget requests for the Collaborative budget. - Given training by a Registered Nurse and/or training videos, the speech and language pathologist will use an EpiPen and/or Vagal Nerve Stimulator with the student for whom they were prescribed. - Attend Collaborative-wide and specific program staff meetings, as scheduled by the Program Administrator and/or Executive Director. - Participate in host school Open House for parents/guardians, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities, as appropriate. - Maintain the high level of confidentiality and professionalism expected of all faculty. - Keep abreast of the latest trends, materials, research and best practices related to speech and language pathology. - Participate in appropriate professional development opportunities to increase knowledge base and skills and to maintain licensure. - Perform other related tasks or duties at the discretion of the Program Administrator and Executive Director. - Provide AAC Services (recommendations, training, consultations, and coordination of AAC solutions) including providing interventions with students that use AAC. - Provide consultation services to staff and parents for intervention strategies to meet AAC IEP goals. - Conduct evaluations/reevaluations of student AAC abilities and needs. - Setup and maintain the appropriate AAC equipment for students. - Provide professional development and coaching to staff and parents in the area of AAC services. - Occasional transport of student(s) in Collaborative van. Physical Demands: - Use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, see (including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus), hear and speak; (i.e., computer, calculator, telephone). - Requires good physical condition in order to support lifting, positioning, and transitioning students, as needed, according to caseload/classroom assignment. Demands of lifting may be up to 50 pounds. - Requires good physical condition in order to implement physical interventions, escorts and restraints, according to the collaborative policies, protocols and special education regulations with students, as needed, and according to caseload/classroom assignment. - Knowledge of/Experience with: - Principles and techniques of AAC technology, devices, assessments and use in multiple settings for students with mild to severe disabilities; - Principles and methods of recognizing, testing, and evaluating AAC needs for nonverbal populations or students with severe speech and language deficits; - AAC implementation; - Training communication partners; and, - Implementation of AAC programs and systems.
