POSITION OBJECTIVE

Working under general supervision, the Information Security Manager will manage and coordinate key projects, process improvements, and compliance initiatives within the Information Security Office. This role will focus on developing, documenting, and implementing standard operating procedures, tracking operational metrics, and supporting security-related training programs. The manager will collaborate with team members to ensure the successful execution of security initiatives, facilitate cross-functional communication, and drive continuous improvement efforts aligned with departmental and institutional goals. Additionally, this role will assist in planning, coordinating, and documenting daily operational tasks to ensure consistency and efficiency across security processes. As part of these responsibilities, the manager will direct a small team of analysts by providing guidance on task execution and ensuring alignment with established procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Develop, document, and standardize security-related processes such as standard operating procedures and key performance indicators to ensure consistency and clarity. (15%)
  • Coordinate and support security-related projects by planning, tracking deliverables, and ensuring alignment with departmental goals. Collaborate with stakeholders to maintain progress. (13%)
  • Assist in implementing security awareness initiatives by tracking timelines, coordinating communication, and ensuring deliverables are met. Support cross-functional teams in execution. (13%)
  • Facilitate collaboration between teams by organizing project meetings, tracking action items, and ensuring key stakeholders remain informed on progress. (10%)
  • Support project reporting and documentation by gathering information, compiling updates, and maintaining project records for security initiatives. (10%)
  • Manage project timelines and priorities, identifying potential blockers, and coordinating with teams to ensure smooth execution of initiatives. (10%)
  • Responsible for managing a team of 3 to 4 professionals, including workload distribution, performance evaluation, and ensuring alignment with departmental goals and priorities. (8%)
  • Track and support compliance-related activities by maintaining documentation, assisting with data preservation requests, and ensuring records align with policy requirements. (8%)


Nonessential Functions

  • Contribute documentation and reports related to security projects, including post-project evaluations. (5%)
  • Perform additional project coordination and administrative tasks as needed. (5%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned. (3%)


CONTACTS

Department: Regular contact with supervisor to review goals, accomplishments, and overall team performance at key stages. Frequent contact with the information security team members or other UTech staff to tackle a variety of issues collaboratively and negotiate any shadow issues that may arise to resolve problems effectively. Monthly contact with UTech leadership to share updates on assigned projects.

University: Frequent contact with stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students to address project, process, and operations.

External: Moderate contact with vendors and peer institutions to stay informed on best practices and emerging trends in operational information security.

Students: Supervise and mentor interns and student employees.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervise 3 to 4 security professionals, including information security analysts and student interns.

QUALIFICAITONS

Experience: 5 years of experience in security, compliance, or process management roles. Supervisory or team leadership experience required.

Education: Bachelor's degree in business management, criminal justice, information systems, or a related field. Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, Security , Six Sigma or Lean preferred.

  • Knowledge of modern operational security tools and processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Professional office setting. Majority of work is in a busy setting--phone, personnel, and rush projects. Daily use of computers and monitors is required to fulfill essential job functions. The employee may be required to attend meetings/functions outside normal working hours. The employee may be required to carry a cell phone, during and after their normal work hours, including weekends to attend to after-hours emergencies. The incumbent may also be required to handle sensitive and confidential information. Travel between various locations on campus is required. Position requires typing on a computer keyboard and using a computer mouse and a printer. This position is eligible for the hybrid work program with approval.

This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
