Position Summary
The Environmental Project Manager - Air & Renewable Energy is responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution of projects related to air permit compliance, renewable energy, and landfill gas (LFG) management programs throughout the Casella footprint. The incumbent will complete office and field work to support the company solid waste management facilities, and will work closely with functional internal and external departments to maintain schedules, procedures, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, engineering, related field, or equivalent experience along with 5 years of experience in solid waste, air compliance & permiting, landfill biomethane managerment, civing engineering, or related industry. The incumbent must have demonstrated technical knowledge and experience of the legal and regulatory requirements for projects at all stages of the permitting process. A valid driver's license and the ability to travel among company offices and facilities throughout the Northeast is necessary.
Excellent listening, verbal and written communication and formal presentation skills, strong commitment to workplace safety, sustainability and environmental compliance, and a demonstrated ability to manage time and resources to meet permitting and regulatory deadlines is required. A thorough understanding of state and federal environmental lays and regulations and proficiency in MS Office 365 and other related platforms is expected.
Although not required, an advanced degree or certificate and legal and/or government affairs experience are preferred.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversees company air permitting processes, conducts air compliance audits, and delivers compliance support by collaborating with internal and external legal teams, facility management, engineering, home office, and operations stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes.
- Supervises, evaluates, and monitors company-wide environmental data related to emissions, odors, landfill/biogas management, renewable energy, and related sustainability programs; administers database systems, data acquisition systems, and statistical metrics.
- Coordinates with internal staff and external consultants to track, plan, and execute multi-year air permitting projects for assigned sites across the company’s footprint.
- Supports the development of landfill gas management, renewable energy, and greenhouse gas mitigation projects to advance the company’s financial, environmental compliance, and sustainability objectives.
- Leads environmental investigations, studies, and field evaluations related to facility air permits, odors, emission releases, and environmental control system performance issues, and implements corrective action projects.
- Delivers internal training, offers technical support, and ensures quality assurance oversight for environmental data collection, database management, and environmental monitoring programs.
- Partners with regional environmental managers, construction engineers, and the special waste team to integrate facility and company needs into regulatory permits, operational plans, and engineering documents.
- Prepares, schedules, and presents oral updates on projects at public hearings and regulatory meetings to ensure stakeholders are well-informed, and testifies at legislative hearings on relevant permitting and regulatory topics.
- Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with state regulators and permit writers to facilitate the preparation of high-quality permitting deliverables and enhance understanding of regulatory priorities.
- Advises and responds to stakeholder inquiries regarding air permitting issues, greenhouse gas emissions, renewable energy, and related environmental monitoring programs.
- Engages in training and other learning opportunities to broaden knowledge of the company, products, sales, and services, and fulfills any additional duties necessary to support the company’s vision, mission, and core values.
