The Commodities Manager oversees the procurement of goods and services for Casey’s Service & Construction Organization for their assigned area. This role includes managing purchasing activities for new construction, acquisitions, site-level services, special initiatives, and remodels across Casey’s footprint. The Commodities Manager will develop strategic sourcing strategies, maintain vendor relationships, and ensure inventory levels meet demand.
- Manage a team committed to scheduling and coordinating materials and services purchases as needed. Responsible for hiring, training, salary administration, performance management, coaching and corrective actions for direct reports. Responsible for collaborating with team members on career development and goal setting. Acts as a champion of a committed and empowering culture, working with direct reports and team members on modeling Casey’s values.
- Collaborate with Service and Construction leadership to determine material requirements and establish schedules based on market trends, price fluctuation, and availability of goods and services.
- Partner with Central Procurement Team and Director of Support Services to develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies, fostering new vendor relationships while maintaining existing long-term partnerships.
- Work with internal stakeholders to forecast future demand for commodities and services, ensuring adequate inventory levels are maintained.
- Develop and maintain effective communication with Service and Construction field team members to address questions and concerns.
- Track material purchases and compare them to budget guidelines, ensuring compliance with the annual budget, company procurement policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate supply chain issues and lead times to assist with forecasting and scheduling.
- Utilize existing analytics tools or develop new strategies to identify market trends and price fluctuations, providing leadership informed recommendations.
- Become a subject matter expert in assigned functional area, offering commodity knowledge to internal partners on spend data, supplier base, and best practices.

Compensation:
Starting pay range: $84,900 - $111,400). Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. This position is eligible for an annual cash bonus based on company performance. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the typical hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain Management, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least seven years of experience working in a retail multi-site organization, logistics or product distribution.
- Experience in tracking, maintaining, and preparing budget reports.
- Good understanding of supply chain management principles.
- Experience using procurement systems and inventory systems.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control methods and logistics terminology, including stocking, shipment, and delivery.
- In-depth knowledge of purchase order structures and inventory management fundamentals, including key metrics like Economic Order Quantity, Days of Supply, and Safety Stock.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to explain data and findings to a non-technical audience.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build professional relationships based on transparency and mutual respect with internal team members and external partners.
- Excellent analytical skills with the proven ability to quickly recognize issues and opportunities to improve processes and drive efficiencies.
- Excellent negotiation skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers, effectively manage conflicts, and secure favorable terms and conditions.
- Detail oriented with a strategic mindset, and highly organized with the ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously and while maintaining high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to work in a team environment with pressure of competing deadlines and frequent interruptions in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting and occasionally at store sites.
- May be required to work evenings and weekends, depending on weather conditions or project demand.
- Minimal travel (10%) out of state and overnight may be required.
