Maintenance Custodian

Position Summary: The Maintenance Custodian ensures a safe and clean environment by completing basic maintenance tasks, operating floor care equipment (floor machine, buffer, dustmop, scrubber, etc.), disposing of cardboard, plastic, and trash, and a variety of other cleaning tasks. The Maintenance Custodian may also assist with projects in the Grocery department.

Key Responsibilities: (Responsibilities may vary depending on assignment.)

Provide outstanding customer service.

Cleans and assists with the upkeep of the building.

Cleans parking lot, front entrance, and back of building.

May assist truck drivers with unloading deliveries and the placement of pallets.

Operates a manual or electric pallet jack (18 years old).

Assists with stocking merchandise.

Change out light bulbs throughout store.

Dispose of trash from all areas of the store.

Helps maintain a clean sales floor and backroom.

Frequently operates a floor scrubber (18 years old).

Frequently sweeps and mops areas of the store.

Operates box bailer and makes bails of cardboard. (18 years old)

Assist on the front-end with cashier and carryout duties as needed.

Any other responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Work Environment:

• May be exposed to all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind) as well as, inside work with variations in heat, cold, dust, and humidity.
• Work performed may also be inside of walk-in coolers or walk-in freezers.
• Fast paced retail environment.

Physical Requirements:

• Frequently moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 30 pounds without assistance. Occasionally moves, lifts, and carries merchandise and supplies weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally reaches overhead and below the knees, including pushing, pulling, squatting, kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and twisting with or without bearing weight. Occasionally required to climb and/or crawl.
• Stands or walks continuously throughout the shift.

Qualifications & Other Job Requirements:

Previous experience in a retail or grocery environment preferred, but not required.

Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Minimum age requirement = 18 years old.
