What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Deputy - Patrol position at Cass County Government?

ANNUAL SALARY: $59,353
This is a regular Deputy Sheriff position and is responsible for patrolling Cass County. This position is a member of the Field Services Group and is responsible to the Patrol Shift Commander.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- Must be currently licensed by the ND POST Board; licensed by another State; or have completed a Basic Law Enforcement Training Course and have completed the testing which must be done satisfactorily to qualify for this position.
- No minimum field experience required.
- Must reside in Cass County (ND) within 12 months of official start date.
- Must be current on all State and Department training and education requirements.
- Be proficient in the use of all assigned equipment.
- Must be certified to do CPR.
- Must be able to walk, run, lift, and carry and have sufficient dexterity in ALL limbs to qualify with a firearm and perform other manual tasks associated with law enforcement.
- Must be capable of physical activities which may involve restraining or arresting individual(s).
- Must be capable of both verbal and written skills that would enable one to communicate effectively with individuals of various mental capacities and professions.
- Must be capable of preparing for and testifying in court.
- Eyesight correctable to 20/40 and hearing within normal audible range.
- Must hold a current driver’s license.
- Must be in good standing adhering to the mission, vision, and values of the office.
- Must not have received formal discipline (Written Reprimand or higher) within the last year of the vacancy closing date.
JOB DUTIES
- Be knowledgeable in all laws and procedures needed to properly perform assignments of Deputy and to meet and provide the public with limited technical, legal and crime prevention information.
- Patrol the county to maintain civil peace for the safety of life and property, investigate complaints and accidents and to enforce city ordinances, state and federal laws.
- To detect and prevent crime and apprehend criminals.
- Respond to public service calls as assigned.
- Prepare and submit reports in the proper form, substance and within prescribed time limits.
- Responsible for proper care and usage of all assigned equipment.
- Work a variety of shifts such as days, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Other duties as assigned.
