- Position SummaryThe Laboratory Assistant works with Medical Technologists/Technicians in various areas of the laboratory. This position is responsible for: registering patients; providing phone support to patients and clients; collecting samples and assessing the acceptability of samples for testing; processing samples for testing, including- centrifugation, aliquoting, storage and shipping; providing support for all aspects of clinical testing; performing point-of-care and CLIA waived testing.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:Required:1 year laboratory experiencePreferred:3-5 years laboratory experience - Essential Job Functions
- Greets and assists patients with knowledge and skills necessary to provide excellent customer satisfaction. Performs phlebotomy procedure in accordance to protocol with an acceptable success rate.
- Demonstrates ability to function in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergent situations. Prioritizes specimen processing as necessary according to patient/facility needs.
- Performs CLIA waived and moderate complexity testing to the level authorized and trained.
- Does not report patient results unless quality control data are within accepted parameters.
- Recognizes when quality control is out of range and collaborates with technical staff to resolve issue.
- Assumes responsibility to resolve problems. Performs required preventative maintenance procedures in laboratory instrumentation. Investigates and collaborates with technical staff to resolve problems.
- Performs clerical, cleaning, and other duties necessary for effective Laboratory operation.
- Participates in the creation of a productive working environment, communicating effectively with other staff concerning patient processing needs. Maintains positive working relationships with medical staff and hospital personnel. Uses interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote the success of team members.
- If certified, performs BAT/COC collections accurately according to protocol.
- Participates in maintaining adequate inventory supplies.
- Takes responsibility in competency program documentation and strives to enhance job performance with continuing educational opportunities. Participates in the orientation and training of other staff members.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
