Job Title: Staff PRN RN (Preop/PACU)
Reports to: RN Administrator and or designee/s.
Employee Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: The responsibility of the Preop/PACU RN is to provide quality, planned, skilled nursing care for patients in the preoperative and postoperative period. The paranesthesia registered nurse uses clinical judgment based on patient acuity, nursing observations, and required interventions.
Essential duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge base and skills necessary to provide care to appropriate age and condition of the patient/s served. Able to perform a comprehensive assessment, develop and implement an individualized plan of care.
- Knowledge of medications, general health conditions and their impact on the perioperative course and anesthetic considerations.
- Responds appropriately to emergency situations, recognizing the need for assistance and obtaining support from team members as needed.
- Always maintains the area in a state of readiness, ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and in good working order.
- Effectively organizes time, equipment, and supplies.
- Assesses physical and emotional needs of patients and implements appropriate nursing interventions.
- Sets priorities to facilitate the timely and efficient flow of patients through the day.
- Positive, effective, and professional communication skills.
- Communicates appropriate information to other members of the healthcare team in a timely manner.
- Acts as the nursing advocate for the patient by upholding patient rights.
- Able to make decisions confidently and quickly.
- Able to work well under pressure and stress.
- Familiar with ASPAN guidelines for blended environment in in the perioperative area.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Current Licensed as an RN in the state of Texas.
- One-year clinical experience in Preop/PACU or other critical care setting preferred.
-Current BLS and ACLS Certifications.
OSHA Category One/ Physical Requirements:
There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissue, or a potential for spills splashes during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed, and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks are likely to cause exposure. Potential for high stress environment, must be able to lift 10-20lbs daily, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
