Position Title: Elementary School Counselor

General Summary: An elementary school counselor provides students a safe and supportive environment to promote academic, emotional, and social growth in accordance with district policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

• Provide classroom guidance lessons, addressing issues such as bullying, anxiety, self-esteem, study habits, goal setting, emotional intelligence, kindness, and family changes that are in accordance with state-mandated requirements, aligned to state standards, and follow district policies and norms.
• Provide individual and group counseling for students experiencing emotional or behavioral challenges.
• Help students develop social skills, conflict resolution strategies, and self-regulation techniques.
• Mediate conflicts between students and teach problem-solving techniques
• Work with teachers to identify students needing additional academic and/or emotional support.
• Respond to immediate student crises, such as trauma, grief, or abuse.
• Provide resources and referrals to families for additional mental health support.
• Communicate with parents regarding their child’s emotional and behavioral needs.
• Organize school-wide initiatives promoting kindness, respect, and responsibility.
• Observe and assess students’ social-emotional and behavioral progress.
• Manage the 504 process, and oversee compliance
• Participate cooperatively with the faculty, staff and principal in various tasks that promote the corporation's goals, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality as defined within the policy and procedure manual.

Qualifications:

• Education: Master’s Degree in School Counseling; Master’s Degree in Social Work
• Valid Indiana license

Length of Contract: 185 days annually
