The Painter II is responsible for preparing surfaces for coating, maintaining sandblasting and spraypainting equipment, mixing, blending, and application of coatings by spray, brush or roller, and preparing equipment for shipment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Coordinate with Lead Painter to plan and administrate general assignments.
- Prepare surfaces for painting, including sandblasting, mechanical cleaning, and pressure washing.
- Mix and apply paint, resins, epoxies, and appropriate identification labels, using brush, roller, or spray equipment to surfaces and equipment associated with natural gas compressors and pumps.
- Mask and tape areas surrounding surfaces to be painted.
- Store, use, and dispose of paints, solvents and other hazardous materials used in the work.
- Clean and maintain brushes, rollers, sprayers and other related equipment.
- Read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets and safety and operation instructions.
- Operate forklift to move components to various shops for sandblasting or coating.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- Minimum 2 years work related experience.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Basic knowledge in the preparation of and use of paints, epoxies, resins, and other coatings associated with industrial painting.
- Ability to apply paint and other coatings by hand or spray.
- Ability to read and interpret customer paint specifications.
- Basic knowledge of conventional, airless, and plural component spray equipment and its use.
- Basic knowledge of non-destructive coating inspection tools such as wet mil gauges, magnetic pull-off gauges, and low / high voltage holiday detectors.
- Basic knowledge of high-pressure sandblasting and pressure washing equipment and its use.
- Excellent understanding of the safety practices of the work, hand tools and air operated equipment used in the work.
- Thorough understanding of all company safety and environmental practices.
- Strong quality focus, team player.
- Reliable, dependable, and able to work overtime when required.
- High school diploma, GED, or formal vocational training is preferred.
- Successfully complete Work Steps assessment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk, climb ladders and scaffolding to paint areas higher than 15 feet. Work in cramped spaces, stooping and bending over equipment while painting; make precise and repetitive arm-hand movements above shoulder level. Painting requires specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Paint mixing, surface preparation, and tool cleaning entails mixing of chemicals, cleaning surfaces with common hand tools, and using cleaning fluids with normal protective equipment. Painters must be able to function and complete work assignments wearing respirator hoods, coveralls, or full-body Tyvex suit. Proper mixing and disposal of paint and cleaning materials requires the ability to comprehend written information, instructions, and warnings. While working independently, the painter must be able to hear and respond to the auditory CO alarm. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 90 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
