Description
You will be responsible for securing Company premises, routinely patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and ensuring safety procedures are followed to protect guests and employees. Assignments include providing security services for special events as necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect properties to protect against theft, vandalism, fire, illegal access and criminal activity
- Identify possible hazards that may endanger employees and guests
- Ensure company procedures and guidelines are followed to protect the safety of guests and employees
- Comply with ABC regulations (Alcoholic Beverage Control)
- Periodically walk among and engage with guests and employees to maintain order and protect the property and equipment
- Regulate pedestrian traffic to maintain an orderly flow
- General knowledge about the town is necessary to assist with questions, directions, or any specific needs or requests
- Inform guests of policies when it appears they may be in violation of laws, regulations and posted notices
- Recognize signs when a guest may be under the influence of alcohol and drugs and take action according to Company guidelines
- Handle stressful situations with tact and professionalism, exercising authority when necessary
- Notify manager on duty or contact the Sheriff Department directly when an emergent situation occurs
- Assist with documentation of incidents that occur on company property
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High School/GED diploma.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- De-escalate confrontational situations with those under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Recognize signs when an individual may be under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
- Pay close attention to details.
- Handle stressful situations with tact and professionalism.
- Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.
- Document and complete reports on incidents.
- Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing.
- Follow directions and efficiently coordinate functions with other teams.
- Effectively handle requests and recognize when to refer a concern to a manager.
- Demonstrate a willingness to assist other members of the team, as needed.
- Arrive to work as scheduled, in uniform and prepared to work.
- Maintain personal appearance and hygiene.
- Work well as part of a team and with minimal supervision
Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
- Previous experience in security preferred.
- Avalon, Catalina Island, and the Catalina Island Company to answer and assist with questions, directions, or any specific needs or requests.
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Principles and practices of record-keeping.
- Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service.
- Alcoholic beverage sale procedures and regulations.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Physical Demands

Must possess:
- Ability to stand, walk, and exert well-paced mobility for at least 8 hours.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

- Full range of overhead motions and full hand dexterity.
- Requires visual acuity and the ability to hear clearly in an outdoor environment in order to communicate with others.
- Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen and to distinguish colors.
- Hearing and speech to communicate in person, by radio, and over the telephone. English/Spanish bilingual preferred.
- Walk, climb and descend stairs and traverse over uneven surfaces frequently in operational areas to perform assigned tasks.
- Finger dexterity needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, and to operate tools and equipment.
- Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and inspect.
- Ability to handle stressful situations with guests and/or staff.
Environmental Elements
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels.
- May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions.
- Work near moving equipment and mechanical parts.
- Exposure to chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.
- Interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.
Working Conditions
- May be assigned an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
