Job Summary: Assembly & Construction Technician is responsible for assembling test samples, installing building materials, and operating tools/equipment in a laboratory setting. This role involves performing routine tasks, ensuring specimen quality, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. The technician will work closely with team members, customers, and subcontractors to support testing operations and site activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs light construction and assembly of test samples in the laboratory
- Typical installed materials include a great variety of building products: LVP flooring, tile, mortar, gypsum wall assemblies with steel or wood studs, coatings, caulks, office screen panels, insulation, foams, concrete, etc.
- Operates hand tools (hammers, saws, grinders, nailers, etc.)
- Receives delivery of shipments, operates forklift, stores materials on pallet racks.
- Provides assistance to customers and subcontractors working onsite.
- Prepares specimens for testing (physical modification, conditioning, etc. as necessary).
- Installs, seals, and removes specimens in/from test chamber openings according to SOPs.
- Measures and records accurate descriptions of specimen physical characteristics: materials, construction, weight, size, etc. according to SOPs.
- Sustains laboratory workplace cleanliness and organization according to Lean 5S methodology (Includes sweeping, organization of inventory, etc.)
- Operates forklift and crane systems.
- Observes onsite work performed by clients, construction contractors, and temporary workers; provides written documentation of test sample information (weights, dimensions, photos, etc.).
- Performs routine maintenance for mechanical equipment, forklift, tools, air lines, etc.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in building trade or carpentry experience is a plus
- Basic mechanical skills and ability to operate equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Must be able to lift and move >35 pounds
