Catawba County Utilities and Engineering is seeking a dedicated Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at the Blackburn Landfill. Likely hiring range is $43,904.07 - $54,880.09 dependent upon education, experience, and skills.
- Preventative maintenance on equipment and vehicles
- Repairs on heavy equipment and vehicles
- Repairs other than mechanical
- Stocking and keeping track of all parts and supplies
- Maintaining charts and records
- Ordering and purchasing parts, equipment, and supplies
- Performing welding repairs, prefabricating parts
- Cleaning shop, equipment, and vehicles
- Other duties as assigned
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and 2 years of experience in mechanical/automotive repair and preventive maintenance.
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Driver’s License with safe driving record, and ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within a specified timeframe.
- Knowledge of diesel mechanics, including electrical and hydraulic equipment, dump trucks, motor vehicles, compressors, water pumps, and small engines.
- Ability to read, comprehend and apply technical data, equipment, manuals, parts books, shop manuals.
- Air condition repair and welding skills.
- This position is considered heavy work; lifting up to 75-100 pounds on a frequent basis.
Preferences:
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred.
- Experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, diesel and gasoline powered equipment is preferred.
