What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rescue/Foster Coordinator position at Catawba County Government?

Catawba County Emergency Services is recruiting an outgoing, dedicated professional to join our Animal Services team as a Rescue/Foster Coordinator. In this position, you will manage/coordinate rescue and foster care operations for animals in the shelter.
- Management of Animal Shelter Assistants including recruitment, training, coaching, supervision, and performance management
- Records development and maintenance; Create programs, policies, and procedures to improve external partnerships and animal movement
- Evaluate and identify animals for rescue or foster opportunities; Place animals that are high risk with rescue partners
- Ensure compliance of program participants with all laws and practices
- Recruitment, training, and coordination of foster and rescue volunteers
- Build and maintain relationships with rescues and other organizations
- Extensive telephone and email communication
- Development and implementation of marketing strategies for rescue/foster activities
- Market, advertise, and promote the shelter, staff, and animals in a consistent and favorable way
- Consultation with foster families after hours regarding emergencies of shelter animals
- Transporting animals to rescue organizations and veterinary offices
- Assist with cleaning, feeding, medicating, and euthanizing animals, as needed
- Graduation from high school and 3 years of experience working with animals and animal rescue organizations
Additional Requirements:
- NC Certified Euthanasia Technician or ability/willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe
- Certified Rabies Vaccinator or ability/willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record
- High level of professionalism and customer service skills with ability to work with and motivate others including internal staff, volunteers, rescue organizations and other animal groups, and customers
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong multi-tasking and time management skills with ability to coordinate projects, set priorities, and adapt to changing priorities when needed
- General knowledge of animal care and behavior
- Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations
- Knowledge of local community resources regarding animal rescue efforts
- Good computer skills; ability to input and use animal tracking system keeping accurate and detailed records
- Ability to make difficult decisions in high stress situations
- This position is considered heavy work; lifting up to 50 pounds on a daily basis, and 100 pounds with an assistant occasionally.
