Faculty member to provide instruction in assigned courses. Courses may be seated, synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid.  

Maintain accurate records (such as attendance, grades, documentation for accreditation, etc.) and submit any corresponding reports according to departmental or college guidelines. Must be willing to travel and teach at off-campus locations including local area high schools. 

Serve on various campus committees and/or as an advisor for student organizations.

Teaching:  Deliver engaging and effective instruction in astronomy courses. Conduct classes both in seated and online formats, adapting teaching methods to suit different learning environments. Note: Seated classes may be offered at off-campus locations such as local high schools. Prepare and deliver lectures, discussions, and interactive activities to facilitate student learning. Teach at least 18 contact hours per semester, spread across various courses and formats. Provide timely feedback on student assignments and assessments. Maintain teaching and work environment including equipment and supplies, overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment.

Student Support:  Hold regular office hours to provide academic assistance and guidance to students. Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment conducive to student success. 

Departmental Engagement:  Actively participate in school, club, and department activities to contribute to the academic community. Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, assessment, and program improvement initiatives. Serve as a resource to adjunct faculty, offering support and guidance as needed. 

Administrative Duties:  Serve on various committees to contribute to the governance and strategic direction of the institution. Fulfill administrative responsibilities related to course planning, grading, and reporting. 

Other duties as required.

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution required in Astronomy and/or Master's degree in a related field with at least 18 graduate hours completed in Astronomy. Credentials to also teach in Mathematics or Physics are preferred.
     
  • All coursework must be from a regionally accredited institution.
     
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and must value collaboration; possess good teaching and organizational skills; able to communicate effectively both in verbal and written expression; and possess an educational philosophy that is compatible with the mission of the community college.

Knowledge of:

  • Classroom instructional techniques and proce­dures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
  • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Principles and techniques involved in curriculum and course development.
  • Principles and techniques involved in test development.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regu­lations, as appropriate.

Ability to:

  • Participate in instructional programs suited to the community.
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
  • Participate in curriculum development.
  • Create effective instruction for delivery in both online and physical classrooms while maintaining compliance with ADA standards.
  • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, proce­dures, laws, and regulations.
  • Work effectively in diverse teams, both within assigned department and cross-functionally across the college.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Create effective instruction for delivery in the classroom and online material as a supplemental instructional method 

Finalists who interview will be asked to teach a 10-15-minute lesson on a topic supplied in advance of the interview.

Copies of all unofficial degree transcripts, including coursework completed and degree conferred, must be provided during the online application process.  Official transcripts are required to be forwarded to the CVCC Human Resources Office upon hire.  

Physical Conditions

Classroom environment; work closely with others; may be exposed to hazardous laboratory substances.   

Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods.  

Frequent communication, verbal and written.
