What are the responsibilities and job description for the Limited X-Ray Machine Operator Instructor, Full-Time position at Catawba Valley Community College?
The LXMO faculty reports directly to the Department Head, Radiography. This position facilitates the operation of clinical sites, provides quality learning experiences, facilitate the learning process, advise students, participates in professional development opportunities, and contribute to the development of curriculum courses/programs.
Classroom Instruction
- Teach all assigned courses for the full duration of scheduled instruction
- Ensure that each class session contains essential curricular components and has appropriate content
- Evaluate, document, and store student progress and provide appropriate, timely feedback
- Incorporate appropriate instructional technology to enhance student learning
- Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in laboratory and/or clinical settings to meet program needs
- Ensure the proper operation of classroom/lab equipment, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate person(s)
- Assist in the recommendation of textbooks and other instructional materials, including classroom and laboratory equipment to Department Head
- Develop and distribute course syllabi according to established template providing appropriate information to students concerning course expectations and evaluation criteria
- Suggest program learning resources to include current and developing imaging technologies
- Assist department head with the maintenance of the program’s student manual, radiation safety manual, and reports
- Ensure students adhere to program policies, and report non-compliance to the department head
- Investigate and document student incident reports
- Provide academic and clinical advisement that is timely and supportive
- Investigate, document, and report any grievances to the Department Head
- Assures confidentiality of student records
Laboratory Maintenance
- Assist with laboratory testing as necessary
- Ensure safety of students and other faculty in the x-ray lab by complying with the program’s radiation safety policies
Other Services to Students
- Maintain appropriate office hours and accessibility for students based on requirements for each semester
- Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of the College at various events.
- Advocate and provide motivation for students
- Assures students are aware of the ARRT/ASRT Ethical standards
- Assures student have access and are aware of student services
Divisional Administrative Expectations
- Prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades, and all other required paperwork in a timely, checking for accuracy and completeness of all data
- Exert an effort to remain current in discipline and instructional methods through professional development activities offered by the College and other opportunities including attendance at off-campus activities, webinars, etc., as feasible
- Must maintain ARRT registry through completion of continuing education
- Participate in program and curriculum review; offering suggestions concerning the improvement of curriculum in keeping with the mission and vision of the College
- Serve on and actively contribute to college committees as needed and as appointed by the President
- Serve on the LXMO Advisory Committee
- Participate in discipline, departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings, and other announced co-curricular activities of the College
- Always maintain proper communication and supportive relationships with all other units and branches of the college
- Maintain posted office and on-campus hours sufficient to fulfill all contracted duties and individual professional obligations, as well as to meet the needs of the discipline, department, division, and College
- Participate in strategic planning and good to great reports
Minimum Qualifications
- Enrollment in a bachelor's program.
- Two years clinical experience in Radiography.
- Current registration in radiography or equivalent through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
- Ability to travel for professional development and clinical site visits.
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in any specialty.
- One year of experience as an instructor in a JRCERT-accredited program.
- Experience with curriculum development, supervision, instruction, evaluation, and academic advising.
- Additional professional credentials appropriate to medical imaging
- Teaching experience at the Community College level.
- Classroom environment; work closely with others.
- Frequent walking, standing, and sitting for prolonged periods.
- Frequent communication, verbal and written.
- Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Office environment; working closely with others; periodically working irregular hours.
Finalists who interview will be asked to teach a 10-15-minute lesson on a topic supplied in advance of the interview.
