JOB TITLE: CARPENTER
FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
SALARY RANGE: $2,883.00 TO $3,924.00
GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
Under direct supervision, performs simple tasks in the field of carpentry. Builds and repairs frameworks, scaffolds, supports and simple wooden articles. Reports to the Director of Maintenance or assigned supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Gather materials to be used.
Measures and marks materials for cutting.
Cuts and drills wood and other materials using hand and power tools.
Join materials with nails, screws or glue.
Checks accuracy of work with levels, rulers and measuring tapes.
Fits and nails sheathing on outer walls and roofs in preparation for boards.
Assists lead carpenter with oversight of floor replacement projects. Examples: VCT, LVP, Carpet…ect.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs other related maintenance functions as assigned by the Maintenance Director.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school is required. Some aptitude for carpentry work demonstrated in prior work, school experience, or personal activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate power tools and mechanical equipment. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently. Must be able to perform all related tasks including lifting and climbing as needed to perform the job functions. Physical demand requirements are for medium work.
Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics of things.
Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information.
Language Ability: Requires the ability to read simple forms. Requires the ability to prepare time sheets.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral.
Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add, subtract, divide and multiply.
Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.
Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using tools.
Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as maintenance equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under minimal levels of stress.
Physical Communications: Requires the ability to talk and hear.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of methods of carpentry work.
Some skill in using tools to cut and join wooden materials.
Ability to follow simple written instructions.
Ability to follow oral instructions with little need for repetition.
