Job Description: Nurse Aide Primary/Clinical Instructor- Part-Time
General Scope of Work
Under the direction of the Adult Programs Coordinator, teaches adult Nurse Aide classes in accordance with State and CATEC rules, regulations, and policies. CATEC generally runs five adult Nurse Aide classes per academic year. Work is part-time, and classes typically meet from 5-9 p.m. two evenings per week (M- Th) when in session. Students are also required to complete 40 hours of clinical experiences, which occur on Saturdays. Each class is a minimum of 140 hours to meet Board of Nursing regulation requirements.
Essential Functions
- Makes purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximize time on task.
- Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
- Demonstrates a strong grasp of the subject matter.
- Uses effective oral and written expression.
- Keeps current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and is willing to share this knowledge for continual improvement of the school's curriculum.
- Develops, in accordance with school guidelines, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate techniques that are consistently applied.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members.
- Evaluates accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods such as teacher-made tests, samples of students' work, mastery skills checklists, criterion-referenced tests, and norm-referenced tests.
- Works collaboratively with clinical location staff and residents.
Education and Experience
- In order to be considered for a Primary Instructor role, applicants must hold a current, unrestricted Virginia license as a registered nurse or a multistate licensure privilege;
- Have two years of experience as a registered nurse within the previous five years and at least one year of experience in the provision of long-term care facility services. Such experience may include, but not be limited to, employment in a nurse aide education program or employment in or supervision of nursing students in a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care, or other long-term care setting. Experience should include varied responsibilities, such as direct client care, supervision, and education.
- In order to be considered for a Clinical Instructor role, applicants must hold a minimum of a current, unrestricted Virginia license as a practical nurse. Clinicals usually occur on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m..
Compensation
Pay for LPN clinical instructor is $40 per hour. Pay for RN primary instructor is $50 per hour.
