Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily tasks in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Operate locomotives, interpret train orders, and ensure compliance with FRA, AAR, and company rules.
- Monitor speed, brakes, and gauges to maintain smooth train operation.
- Inspect track conditions, railcars, and other equipment to prevent accidents and ensure compliance with Federal Railroad Administration regulations.
- Work collaboratively with conductors and other team members to achieve operational goals.
- Provide accurate information on train stops, delays, and incidents, and take necessary actions to mitigate issues.
- Assemble and switch trains according to work orders, and provide excellent customer service.
- Operate locomotives safely and efficiently, following GCOR, ABTH, and Safety Book guidelines.
- Signal crew members using lanterns, hand signals, or radio communication to indicate engine or train movements.
- Observe, interpret, and relay signals affecting train movement, and make adjustments as needed.
- Operate track switches to change engine or car direction within yard limits or on main tracks.
- Read and understand books of rules, timetables, bulletins, train orders, waybills, placards, safety instructions, and other written materials.
- Prepare required reports, switch lists, and fill out forms, including train orders and inspection records.
- Inspect train condition and equipment while moving or stationary, and perform minor repairs as needed.
- Couple air and electrical connections between locomotives when making up trains.
- Participate in cross-training for various rail-related duties, such as track repair, locomotive servicing, and general labor.
Required Education and Credentials:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- FRA 240 and 242 certification.
- Two years of work experience; three years preferred.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environments with varied working conditions.
