The Mechanical Supervisor will lead the assigned site as they work together toward meeting the financial and operational goals, focusing on safety and quality. This position will strive to ensure optimum utilization, efficiency, and economy of the site operation. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to leading the railcar repair team and overseeing overall operations including safety, environmental, quality assurance, and control, railcar repairs in accordance with AAR and FRA regulations, materials, financial goals, training, and customer relations. This is a working Supervisor position. Candidate should expect to work with the repair crew daily performing repairs, teaching, mentoring, and leading by example.
- Manage and oversee all aspects of daily operations from the safety, environmental, quality, and production standpoints.
- Ensure customer satisfaction, AAR and FRA compliance, a safe environment, and a profit is realized to return value to our shareholders.
- Recommends measures to improve methods, performance, and quality of products or services, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency.
- Oversee and coordinate activities of the site repair staff.
- Establishes or adjusts work schedules to meet railroad and customer demand.
- Prepare reports and records on the site for management including AAR billing and KPI metrics.
- Responsible for ensuring that the site implements and follows companywide initiatives, policies, and practices; interpret and communicate company policies to workers and enforce company policy and practices.
- Ensure that timecards are entered into Paycom accurately and timely for all employees under their direction including approvals.
- Ensure safety practices are being adhered to at the location and be involved in actively improving safety culture.
- In coordination with the General Manager and Recruiting, recommends or initiates staffing decisions for the location including hiring, performance management, scheduling, and terminations.
- Utilization of hands-on leadership to facilitate growth among the team, including training new employees.
- Ensure the crew adheres to FRA regulations, AAR/Cathcart quality & operating standards, along with meeting customer requirements.
- Communicate regularly with the General Manager to ensure goals are met.
- Other projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Business degree and/or certifications applicable to the position or equivalent experience
- 3-5 years experience in management/supervisory role in the rail and/or railcar repair industry.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively at all levels and in support of customer relations.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to translate strategies into operational objectives and projects.
- Strong analytical skills, self-motivated with excellent teamwork.
- Goal-oriented and a strong customer service attitude.
- Effective use of standard office computer technology such as databases, word processing, ERP, and reporting systems.
- Significant knowledge of railcar repair and general knowledge of train operation procedures and work practices.
- Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Association of American Railroads (AAR) regulations and rules.
- Required ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

- Strong railcar repair experience, vast knowledge of railcar parts, AAR billing, and FRA and AAR guidelines.
