Description
Position Summary
The Mobile Repair Technician is responsible for traveling to customer locations to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain railcars to ensure their safety, functionality, and compliance with industry regulations. This role involves working with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and performing routine maintenance and detailed repairs to keep railcars in optimal working condition. This position performs at an elevated level of proficiency in railcar repairs with limited supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough inspections of railcars to identify wear, damage, or malfunction.
- Diagnose issues using tools, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Repair or replace defective components, such as wheels, brakes, couplers, and structural elements.
- Weld, cut and fabricate materials as needed to repair railcars.
- Perform maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance comply with AAR and FRA safety standards and industry regulations.
- Follow workplace safety protocols, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) properly.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment effectively.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and repair manuals.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other technicians to prioritize and complete tasks.
- Communicate repair progress and issues to management and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED, technical training, or certification in railcar repair or a related field is preferred.
- Must be willing to travel to the following States: FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, OH, PA, TN, MS, and SC.
- Must be able to work the following schedule: ten days on / four days off.
- ASCTD (Automated Single Car Test Device) Certified
- Proficiency in welding, fabrication, and mechanical repair.
- Knowledge of industry regulations (e.g., Association of American Railroads (AAR) standards).
- Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and operate in varying weather conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Prior experience in railcar maintenance or a similar mechanical role.
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
