What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Maintenance position at Cathedral Caverns State Park?
Duties:
- Primary duty will be weed trimming throughout the entire park.
- Maintain flower beds
- Maintains green spaces by weeding, trimming, and pruning.
- Removes unwanted or unhealthy plants, shrubs, and trees, as well as downed limbs.
- Operates hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, weed trimmer, log splitter, sprayer, and UTVs.
- Maintain a professional and engaging demeanor while interacting with park guests.
- Adhere to established schedules

Position Details:
- This position requires holiday and weekend work.
- Individuals selected will be scheduled up to 40 hours per week. However, part time employment options are available.
- Cathedral Caverns State Park normal business hours are from 8:00AM-6:00PM seven days per week. Employees are normally scheduled five days per week for eight hours per day.
- This position is a seasonal position. Individuals selected will work up to 40 weeks and then a 60-day separation of service is required. Once the 60-day separation in service is complete the employee can be rehired.
- Alabama State Employees are paid on the 1st and 16th of the month. If the 1st or 16th falls on a weekend, then the employee will be paid on the Friday before the weekend.
- Newly hired employees will receive their first check a month from their start date. Then will receive their checks on the 1st or the 16th of each month. Example: if you start on October 1st then you would receive your first paycheck on November 1st.
