Cathedral is seeking a maternity leave school nurse to join our community. The position would begin immediately and end in the Spring.
Job Title: School Nurse
Reports to: Director of School and Community Engagement
Position: Full-time
GENERAL SUMMARY
The nurse attends to the daily medical needs of the student population, grades 7-12, serves as liaison to the Department of Health, community, and government agencies, and executes the required by law HIPAA privacy and documentation mandates. The nurse educates and advises the school on all relevant health issues. The nurse is a member of the school’s wellness team, acts as an overall health educator, and evidences a commitment to the school’s Mission.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Develops and maintains a confidential and comprehensive health record for each student
* Communicates with parents of newly entering students to obtain required health data, including up-to-date physical/mental health exams and immunization record
* Maintains a paper health record and enters a computerized record for each student, which includes immunizations, physical and mental health exams, doctor’s orders and letters, screenings, and parent notes
* Obtains and maintains health records, physical and mental health exams, and immunization documentation on international students
* Enters, administers and maintains records for all scheduled PRN medication orders in the School Health Software
* Transfers records with parental permission to schools in the event of a student withdrawal
* Reports cases of suspected abuse by filing a 51A
* Provides necessary planned care
* Contacts parents immediately in case of a medical emergency
* Obtains and reviews the past medical history and health records of each student in grades 7-12
* Develops, implements, and notifies school personnel of care of a student with individual health concerns as indicated in an individualized health care plan
* Implements protocols for students with chronic health problems, including assessment and the administration of medication
* Communicates with parents and medical providers to obtain medication/treatment orders
* Refers students, parents, and school personnel to outside health care resources as needed
* Provides episodic care, exercising necessary protocols and appropriate treatments
* Records all activity, student and staff interactions, and treatments daily on paper and in the software program
* Collects, maintains, updates and records all health data for each student for the next school year
* Attends school activities as required
Required Qualifications
* Massachusetts RN, LPN, EMT license required
* Desire to work in a Catholic institution
* Minimum 5 years of Nursing experience
* Excellent documenting and recording skills, including software entry systems
