POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides personal and legal advocacy to victims of domestic and sexual violence.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Support of Agency and Program Missions

  • Demonstrates commitment to the philosophy of Catherine Cobb Domestic and Sexual Violence Program.
  • Provides representation in the Coordinated Community Response Team.
  • Assist survivors with filling PPO, NCO and Victim’s Compensation paperwork.
  • Provides legal and personal advocacy to survivors.
  • Provides accompaniment to court, attorney meetings, law enforcement, Child Protective Services meetings, and other agencies as requested with survivors.
  • Assess survivor needs, and strategize best ways to advocate.
  • Knowledgeable on referrals and legal resources within the community.
  • Assists survivors in developing safety plans based on individual needs.
  • Responds to callers requesting crisis response and recruits and assists in training members of the Coordinated Community Response Team.
  • Provides effective crisis intervention for residents, non-residents and for callers on 24-hour crisis line.
  • Assist co-workers with shelter duties and provide back-up and coverage as assigned.

  • Is courteous and tactful when serving clients.
  • Maintains timely documentation in client records.

  • Pays attention to accuracy, detail and appearance of work.
  • Reflects a favorable agency image when interacting with clients and the public.

Job Knowledge

  • Successfully completes Domestic and Sexual Violence New Hire Training and completes 24 hours per year thereafter.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of domestic violence and sexual assault laws, police policies and procedures and victims’ rights; provides consultation of this knowledge when needed.

Initiative/Creativity

  • Assist with Teen Dating and Domestic and Sexual Violence awareness events.
  • Possesses the ability to solve minor problems independently and make appropriate recommendations and referrals.
  • Is able to prioritize and manage time efficiently.
  • Participates in program planning.
  • Shares ideas with staff and supervisor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs
  • Light lifting
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to recognize and respond quickly to emergency situations and potential threats

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License, access to transportation, and automotive liability insurance.
  • Willing to be on-call evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
