PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position will include cooking and culinary teaching skills. It requires planning and preparing meals for participants of the Marisol Home Program at its location. Oversees volunteers and participants that help with kitchen meals and kitchen duties. Ensures that volunteers, residents and interns receive appropriate training in food preparation and that all sanitation standards of health, safety and hygiene are practiced and enforced. Works within the volunteer base and the participants to ultimately achieve a volunteer/participant ran food program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and completes all aspects of food preparation for meals during specified shifts on time.
- Directs and develops the duties of volunteers and/or resident that help in the kitchen.
- Executes and maintains an efficient, economical and nutritious food service program.
- Receives and supervises the usage of food donations and makes arrangements for the storage of food products and other materials necessary to the food service operations.
- Assists with food production and presentation for each day’s needs including special events.
- Monitors that quality is maintained in the production of the daily meals.
- Monitors that all kitchen sanitation and safety regulations are observed at all times.
- Supervises in a manner that proper kitchen skills are met for interns, volunteers and participants with emphasis on instructing residents on basic food preparation in a commercial food production environment.
- Maintains statistical data on meals served and inventory requirements
- Monitors costing of needed raw materials when needed
- Monitors portion control, waste and maintains appropriate levels of required inventory.
- Supports, promotes and adheres to Catholic Charities’ vision, mission, values and Code of Ethics.
- Reflects Catholic Charities’ commitment to treating all persons with dignity and respect.
- Maintains confidentiality of client and agency information.
- Reports to Kitchen Supervisor,
- Once job requirements are fulfilled in building a volunteer/participant ran food program this position will revert to Catholic Charities Samaritan House cook position and job description.
- Participates in staff trainings, weekly staff meetings, and programs as required.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Institutional or restaurant experience as well as some culinary teaching skills. A good working knowledge of all food preparation and production standards including sanitation safety standards. Volunteer base instruction a plus.
- Good working knowledge of all commercial grade kitchen equipment.
- The ability to be able to function independently and maintain self-sufficiency with minimal supervision.
- Good interpersonal communication skills within a participant-based program.
- Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently and/or with other agency staff within a diverse client base.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary: $20 hourly Shifts 2a-10:30a
