PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provides advocacy services to immigrant clients who are encountering obstacles in getting their needs met or rights upheld. Additionally, coordinates a cultural orientation program for immigrants aimed at easing their adjustment issues and enhancing their job productivity.
- Stays up to date with Victims' Rights/Landlord-tenant rights discrimination laws, etc.. and other resources to provide client advocacy
- Completes an assessment of each client and determines the service plan needs.
- Develops, with the client, a plan of action to resolve the presenting problem.
- Refers clients to needed professional, legal, and/or human service providers.
- Makes home visits as needed or visits other settings on behalf of the client.
- Negotiates with other individuals or groups on behalf of the client to mediate a resolution.
- Gathers data to support cultural orientation curriculum development and other training as needed as identified by client base or community, agencies, or groups.
- Provides Emergency Financial Assistance to clients in addition to other responsibilities
- Maintains accurate and timely program statistical data to meet reporting requirements. Enters data and generates reports.
- Applies appropriate techniques and standards in program development and service delivery.
- Implements program objectives and performance standards as directed by supervisor/ management consistent with our mission and Catholic teachings
- Prepares training presentations and/or recruits other presenters to give instruction.
- Maintains collaborative working relationships with other community-based organizations and parishes for reasons of advocacy, education, resource development, and public relations. Completes necessary administrative duties (paperwork, etc.) timely and accurate.
- Supports, promotes and adheres to Catholic Charities vision, mission, values and Code of Ethics.
- Reflects Catholic Charities commitment to treating all persons with dignity and respect.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite to input information, maintain client and program data, generate reports, and create communications.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills, including written and oral.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, both in writing and speaking.
- Knowledge of the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and the appropriate techniques and practices for the client population.
- Ability to interact effectively as a team member and independently with Agency staff and with a diverse client base.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in related field from four-year college or university; and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary:$23/ hr with a $1 bilingual differential (English/Spanish)
