What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kitchen Assistant position at Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston?
The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for helping the cook prepare and serve meals, clean and sanitize the kitchen and camp eating areas. The Kitchen Assistant will work alongside the Camp Cook to ensure safe preparation and serve all meals to campers and staff. The Kitchen Assistant helps with the camp laundry needs and other areas that need sanitizing and disinfecting and including camper and staff bathroom areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Meet daily with the camp manager and camp cook to review assignments and plans for each day
- Help with the preparation, cooking and serving of all camp meals
- Work the assigned job of the day as directed by camp manager or camp cook
- Assist with the daily meal count for DOE reporting
- Clean and sanitize all areas of food prep throughout the day
- Clean and sanitize dining room tables, chairs and floors after each meal
- Wash all kitchen laundry. Clean and sanitize all dining room and campers’ bathrooms
- Ability to follow direction and work in collaboration with other camp staff to ensure the cleanliness of the camp environment
- Always maintain boundaries with staff and campers, report concerns as needed
- Work as a member of a team
- Work is performed at an overnight camp environment with children and adults. May be exposed to high degree of temperatures without air-conditioning. Standing, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying to 20 pounds. Use of kitchenware culinary utensils, laundry machines and cleaning applications.
- Attend meetings and trainings
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 16 when accompanied by a work permit from current school enrollment.
- Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED by a nationally recognized organization
- Experience working with latency age youth
- Ability to communicate, follow directions both orally and written
- Interest working as team, following direction with good disposition and patience working with latency youth
