What are the responsibilities and job description for the Waterfront Manager position at Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Boston?
The Waterfront Manager will ensure the safety of campers and employees while present at the waterfront. The Waterfront Manager will work a schedule determined by the Summer camp Manager and be present at the waterfront for all boating activities. Together with the secondary lifeguards, the Waterfront Manager will supervise lifeguards and provide coverage for all beach front, boating, and pool activities as well as all off site aquatic-based activities. This is a summer season 40 hour per week position with the option of living on site during camp season.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Always maintain professional boundaries.
- Lifeguard daily and supervise the lifeguard team and oversight of SPC aquatic’s programs.
- Ensure the general safety of campers and employees at the waterfront.
- Manage waterfront emergencies and report timely to the Summer Camp Manager.
- Train new lifeguards at the beginning of each summer to orientate new guard staff to the waterfront activities (both on site and off) with their accompanying hazards/risks, and to ensure that all lifeguard staff can implement the Emergency Action Plan and other SPC policies specific to waterfront.
- Inspect facilities and equipment daily, report any problems to the Director, restock First Aid kits etc. as needed.
- Assist and develop the weekly lifeguard schedule.
- Train lifeguards on pool maintenance and daily care.
- Provide ongoing support of lifeguard staff through regular oral and written feedback.
- Provide leadership during any waterfront emergency.
- Complete appropriate follow-up documentation for any waterfront emergency or rescue.
- Assist with program needs.
- Work closely with the Summer Camp Manager to schedule/reschedule activities and to assign guards to provide extra staff in other areas as needs arise.
- Work with Summer Camp Manager in developing and staffing appropriate interest groups at the waterfront.
- Work closely with Summer Camp manager to facilitate daily swim and water games and swimming lessons.
- Lifeguard at the waterfront for swim times at pool, beach and boating.
- Keep waterfront free of hazards and equipment maintained.
- Must abide by on site living rules and procedures as applicable.
- Attend staff meetings and coordinate duties for lifeguard staff.
- Report waterfront and camp concerns timely to the Summer Camp Manager.
- Complete incident reports as needed, report timely.
- Assist with program needs as they arise.
- Work is performed in an overnight camp environment inside and outdoors during various weather conditions. Daily presence with minors and adults.
- Perform all other duties and roles assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- EEOC/SORI background check with acceptable results.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working as a lifeguard. Minimum age of 21.
- Current Waterfront Lifeguarding certification with the corresponding certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.
- Current Waterfront Lifeguarding Instructor certification.
- Experience lifeguarding in non-pool locations-particularly ocean.
- Reliable attendance and proven leadership experience attained through employment.
