Camp Specifics:
- Monday - Friday Day Camp
- Camp staff needs to start June 2nd, 2025
- Season is 8 weeks; June 9th - August 1st, 2025
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Program Statement
At St. Martin de Porres Family Center, we provide an array of services that includes early childhood development, older adults, after-school, summer camp, and teen programming, food pantry, home-delivered meals, and emergency assistance. St. Martin de Porres is located in the heart of the Glenville community and takes pride in meeting the needs of the residence we serve through service coordination and empowering them to be self sufficient.
Catholic Charities is seeking a passionate, energetic, and dynamic individual who enjoys working with children ages 5-14 to join our Summer Camp Program as a Camp Counselor. This position will allow you the ability to be creative and engage children in developmentally age appropriate activities for 8 weeks throughout the summer. Must be willing to be trained and follow the State of Ohio Child Licensing Rules and Regulations. Come join the fun!
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and monitor children at all times both on and offsite.
- Engage and supervise children in structured activities
- Create fun STREAM ( Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math) activities
- Ensure the safety of children at all times both on and offsite.
- Monitor children during meal times.
- Complete all required trainings as assigned.
Requirements:
- Combination of education and experience normally represented by a High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelors Degree in Recreation, Education, Social Work, Human Services or related field preferred.
- Coursework or experience in a Human Services related field preferred.
- Experience related to working with persons with cognitive disabilities preferred.
- Previous camping experience a plus.
- Must be at least 18 years of age. If driving, must be 21 years of age at time of hire
- If driving, must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License, provide a copy of driver’s license, and are subject to a Moving Vehicle Report (MVR) check through the Department of Motor Vehicles annually. Any MVR grade of “unacceptable” is not permitted to operate a company or personal vehicle on behalf of Catholic Charities.
- Knowledge of the growth of children and concern for their emotional, physical and spiritual needs.
- Knowledge and understanding of camper information including but not limited to behavioral issues, health concerns and other facts unique to campers.
- Enjoy the outdoors.
- A desire and the ability to work with children outdoors.
- Ability to make quick decisions in life threatening situations.
- Flexible and good at working in a team atmosphere. Willingness to assume multiple roles and job assignments throughout the summer.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR or attained through training during orientation.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat and reach above head.
- Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Must be able to physically assist campers to stand, sit, use restroom and walk.
- Must have good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Must be well organized, detail oriented and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to show patience and courtesy when working with people.
- Final applicant is required to be fingerprinted to complete background check.
