GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for providing education-based prevention services to individuals, families, and groups. Assists the Prevention Supervisor with fundraising, program development and reports required by funding sources to support programming needs. Works in any of the following counties or a combination of counties, as deemed necessary for the program needs: Genesee, Lapeer, and Shiawassee.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides consultation, community outreach, participates in coalition activities, and information dissemination through presentations, meetings, other local events and outreach efforts.
- Coordinates the planning, implementation, and evaluation of Agency Prevention Education Programs with local schools and organizations to provide curriculum-based programming.
- Processes phone intakes/screening, completes reports and forms, maintains program documentation and statistics related to programming.
- Develops and maintains relationships with other Prevention professionals in the community and attends community organization meetings and events as required.
- Maintains program documentation and statistics related to programming.
- Maintains Prevention outcomes and information needed for Prevention reporting purposes.
- Provides monthly/quarterly/annual updates and data to the Prevention Supervisor so that reports to funders for accountability of specific Prevention programming can be completed in a timely manner.
- Assists in preparing for program audits and site visits, which include COA and those of other funders, as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Prevention Supervisor.
- Assists Prevention Supervisor in training new staff on paperwork and data entry requirements and helps to mentor new staff if needed.
- Reports complaints, grievances, and incidents within the department and/or Agency to the Prevention Supervisor, and files 3200 forms with DHHS, if needed.
- Informs Prevention Supervisor and the designated Agency staff, or CEO, of incidents of abuse, neglect, suicidal, or homicidal symptoms, and/or informs the Prevention Supervisor and the designate Agency staff, or CEO, of any unsafe work conditions.
- Attends department, staff, and supervisor meetings and training sessions as required.
- Staff will be expected to be cross trained in a variety of prevention education programming curriculum, in order to provide services to all populations and substitute for other Prevention Specialist if needed. Prevention Education Services include, but are not limited to the following program areas:
- Cognitive Behavioral Group (Thinking Process or Thinking Matters)
- Batterer Intervention Group (DAIP-Duluth Model, Family Peace Initiative or similar)
- Families and Students Together (FAST)
- Systematic Effective Parenting (STEP and Early STEP)
- Anger Management & Bullying (Second STEP)
- Student Assistance Programming for Self-Esteem, Grief, and Loss (SAP)
- Botvin’s Life Skills
- Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives for Seniors (PEARLS)
- Substance Use Education (MI Model)
- Performs other job-related duties as required for department/program operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a Social Work or Human Services related field, from an accredited college or university is required; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience. This position requires a MCBAP Prevention Certification or a MCBAP Work Development Plan working towards certification (or apply for a MCBAP Development Plan for Prevention Specialist within 30 days of hire).
Experience: Previous experience of two (2) years with child welfare, substance abuse, mental health, or education.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of computers, working with Microsoft Office, database entry systems, and e-mail using Outlook and all relevant software systems.
- Ability to prepare and analyze reports, make presentations, maintain records, and evaluate consumer data as needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally, and in writing, and carry out instructions.
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement, and make appropriate assessments and recommendations.
- Ability to prioritize workload, organize time and follow through with required and recommended tasks.
- Ability to thoroughly follow through on assignments and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work with community organizations and use community resources to meet client needs.
- Ability to relate to diverse populations and cultures while communicating with individuals and the public in a courteous and effective manner.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to talk and hear to effectively communicate and educate individuals.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time; walk low-moderate distances; sit for prolonged periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle, touch, and feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop or kneel; and/or crouch or crawl pending classroom activity, event participation, and/or other prevention-related item within various environments.
- Must be able to lift/move up to 25 pounds for transporting program supply materials, if needed.
- Must be able to be flexible in various work environments and be able to drive low-moderate distances for programming, meeting, and community event activities.
- Must be able to work in an environment that has a moderate noise level, and may experience low-moderate interruptions throughout the day while in the office, and moderate-high interruptions while in the classroom/community.
- Must be able to tolerate changing weather conditions, and be flexible when working with the schools during inclement weather.
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Staff must abide by all policies and procedures of Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties, which includes the Agency’s stance on abortion, HIPPA, and the Agency’s Mission and Vision, and Catholic Charities Code of Ethics.
- Must pass all background and clearance checks including, but not limited to a criminal background check, DHHS central registry clearance check, and others as deemed applicable, and must have a valid drivers license and carry auto insurance.
- Individual must be able to plan, and coordinate with other professional staff, have an overall general knowledge of computers and relevant software, and be willing to work irregular hours which includes evenings, holidays, and weekends, if needed.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $17.00 - $20.50 per hour
