What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Advocate - RCWC and The Creek position at Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota?
Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota has the following positions available in the Rochester area:
- Shelter Advocate - Exit position at the Rochester Community Warming Center (RCWC)
- Shelter Advocate - Shifts are at both the RCWC and the Creek, a transitional shelter program
The RCWC is a low-barrier emergency shelter for adults, 18 and older, experiencing homelessness. Individuals who stay at the RCWC have a safe and warm place to sleep, access to a hot meal & drink, showers, and laundry.
The Creek is a transitional program that we partner with Olmsted County's Housing Stability Team. At the Creek, guests work with Catholic Charities staff on goals and tasks to help secure stable housing and receive case management from an Olmsted County social worker.
Shelter advocates are key to helping our guests feel welcomed and valued. Successful shelter advocates have a good sense of personal and professional boundaries, the ability to de-escalate situations, multi-task, and thrive in a fast-paced environment all while serving our guests in a non-judgmental manner that affirms their human dignity.
PT - Shelter Advocate Exit Shift (1 position)
- Exit shift – 12:30AM to 9:00AM
- 3 shifts per week (24 hrs/week) every other weekend, and some holidays
- $19.00 per hour
- Ability to pick up additional shifts
PT - Shelter Advocate (2 positions)
- The Creek - 3:00PM to 11:00PM & RCWC - 7:30PM to 12:30AM
- 2-3 shifts per week (20 hrs/week) every other weekend, and some holidays
- $19.00 per hour
- Ability to pick up additional shifts

All positions require a High School diploma or GED. Experience in human services or related field preferred. Interested applicants must be capable of empathetic and professional relationship building while advocating for diverse client needs and interests. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment - must work well under pressure. Must be at least 18 years of age and pass background check.
