Catholic Charities is the social service arm of the Catholic Diocese of Winona-Rochester serving the twenty southernmost counties of Minnesota. Catholic Charities of Southern Minnesota is seeking a full-time Child and Family Services Social Worker in our Rochester, MN office.
Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Social Worker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience with supporting and counseling services as well as adoption services. Managing organization working relationships in accord with sound teamwork principles and practices and works to assure a positive agency image through excellent professional services and marketing practices.
The position assists with program and public relations duties, attends required meetings, seminars and training sessions and issues reports in accord with agency policy and procedure.

Responsibilities
New and Expectant Parent Services
- Complete intake and assessment on all new or expectant parents requesting services.
- Provide counseling support to assist expectant parents in determining the best plan for themselves and their child. Guide expectant parents through the process of adoption, understand the legalities of releasing a child for adoption, take adoption consents from birth parents, and provide follow up and support after the decision process is completed.
- Process requests for financial assistance and baby items.
- Provide individual education as specified by current grants.
- Actively advocate for expectant parents providing information and referrals.
- Define marketing goals and engage in marketing efforts to assure adequate utilization of pregnancy and parenting services for each location served. Plan for activities with Director.
Adoption Services
- Provide 24/7 on-call coverage for adoption related calls and services on a rotating schedule.
- Evaluate, assess, and educate prospective adoptive applicants during home study and after approval.
- Define marketing goals and engage in marketing efforts to assure adequate utilization of Adoption Services for each location served.
- Prepare prospective adoptive families for placement of a child, considering the tangible and emotional changes.
- Supervise adoptive placements, addressing any concerns for the child or adoptive parents. Gather social and medical information, write reports in accordance with state and agency policy.
- File all needed documents with the Court and assist with the legal process of finalizing an adoption.
Onward and Upward Services
- Interview, assess and enroll applicants in the Onward and Upward program
- Provide mentoring and education on time management, budgeting, self-care and learning styles to program participants.
- Process requests for financial assistance with program Director.
Other Duties
- Make child welfare reports as required by state and federal law.
- Keep documentation and records in accord with State requirements and agency practice.
- Refer clients for services that are outside the realm of our continuum of services.
- Attends appropriate staff meetings, conferences and public events as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Social Work degree, which meets the license requirement of the social work practices in our state. Must be a licensed social worker in the State of Minnesota.
- Child Passenger Safety Technician, with current certification
- Ability to communicate, in writing and verbally, information in a direct and straightforward manner without excessive use of technical terms.
- Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Internet, and e-mail.
- Must own automobile, have a valid driver’s license, and be able to drive in urban and rural areas throughout the twelve months of the year.
Other Requirements: Some travel and evening and weekend work. Responsible for being on call via agency cell phone.
