This is a part-time / on call position slated for 8-16 hours per week
The mission of Catholic Charities Twin Cities is to serve those most in need and to advocate for justice in the community.
Our programs for children, families, and adults serve more than 25,000 people every year. As the need for our services grows, Catholic Charities is working to adapt and respond with strategies that prevent poverty, meet basic needs in times of crisis, and create pathways to greater stability.
WAGE RANGE: $18.00-$20.50 Hourly
JOB SUMMARY: Catholic Charities is seeking a people centric individual who is compassionate, trauma-informed, and culturally aware to join the organization as a Shelter Advocate II.
Under general supervision, maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment for clients by providing referral information on a wide variety of topics, including housing, employment, and healthcare and de-escalating situations as appropriate. Check all clients for prohibited items prior to their entry into the facility. Communicate information regarding clients and programmatic concerns both in writing and verbally to other staff. Ensure that rules and policies are enforced consistently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide high quality customer service to all persons by completing all applicable client requests.
- Be vigilant of the facilities safety and security by utilizing conflict resolution and de-escalation skills to defuse crisis situations as required.
- Responsible for promptly and accurately collecting, entering, managing and reporting of client data into systems of record.
- Respond to and submit incident reports for all instances of chemical abuse, theft, threats and violations of program rules.
- Serve as a Mandated Reporter.
- Complete regular rounds checking all exits, fire doors, and safety equipment, as well as monitoring residents’ activities in common areas to ensure safety and security.
- May drive van and/or administer breathalyzers, as required for program.
- Assist supervisor/manager with program development, facility operations, and other responsibilities.
- Assist with mentoring and position-specific training, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of (1) one year of relevant experience.
- Ability to work with low-income populations, including those who may be experiencing homelessness, unstable housing, and/or mental illness required.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Ability to accurately enter data into computer system for reporting purposes.
- Must be 21 years of age and successfully pass a criminal and a Department of Human Services background check, if required by program license.
