What are the responsibilities and job description for the Warehouse and Thrift Store Delivery Driver position at Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Fresno?
DEFINITION:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Warehouse and Thrift Store Delivery Driver position is responsible for the overall delivery and pick up of donated and purchased items. This includes working closely with the Thrift Store staff to coordinate any and all donation pickups and deliveries. This also includes working with the Operations Manager and Warehouse Lead to pick up donated and purchased food. The candidate needs to possess excellent communication skills and be able to work with our clientele, staff, and donors in a respectful dignified manner.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The Catholic Charities Diocese of Fresno (CCDOF) is a community benefit organization serving families living within the Diocese of Fresno who are in need of food, clothing, housing, and other related support services. The Fresno site is one of several organizational divisions and units within the CCDOF agency.

- Operate delivery truck in a safe and timely manner to deliver goods to the thrift store and warehouse.
- Utilize an online database to organize and track donor waiting lists and pickups for thrift store.
- Pick up food from local area foodbank and deliver to warehouse.
- Schedule any and all pickups regarding donated goods.
- Coordination of any and all pickups regarding food purchases and food donations.
- Be organized and able to delegate tasks to fellow staff and volunteers.
- Provide services to all customers, staff, and donors with dignity and respect.
- Communicate daily with Operation Manager.
- Help to oversee the Warehouse environment to maintain a clean and safe atmosphere. Assist Warehouse Lead in the organization of food pallets, bins.
- Ensure that only appropriate warehouse volunteers and staff are working in the back, redirect anyone else to Intake.
- Keep forklift certification current and up to date as well as daily use of forklift.
- Ensure that staff receives and stores food deliveries and donations appropriately and that donation receipts are issued and maintained.
- Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with local food banks, vendors, and donors.
- Assist with the organization and preparation of the monthly USDA distribution and Neighborhood Market Distributions.
- Assist in carrying out monthly Rural Outreach events with Client Services Manager.
- Ensure warehouse dock areas are clean and safe for the public, staff, and volunteers.
- Assist Thrift Store employees in placing heavy donated items on to the selling floor.
- Additional duties as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
The Warehouse and Thrift Store Delivery Driver has additional duties that require skills to:
- Establish good relationships with volunteers and workers from various organizations and program.
- Provide leadership, direction, and development for all staff and volunteers to ensure that the highest standards are being met.
- Build excellent working relationships among all departments at Catholic Charities including, but not limited to, Senior Companions, and Intake Department.
- Implement the mission, vision, and values of Catholic Charities by setting the standard for customer service in the Warehouse and Thrift Store.
- Consistently deliver high quality services that are aligned with the agency’s mission and values.
- Develop and recommend new ideas for the Warehouse.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager on all donations.
- Remain knowledgeable about the services provided by Catholic Charities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: Previous work experience in a social service organization and warehouse is desired. Experience must show general knowledge and mastery of customer service skills, and ability to delegate and supervise. Proof of insurance, driver’s license, and a printout of driving record is required. Reliable transportation to provide daily pick up of the delivery truck from an offsite location to and from the Catholic Charities.
Education and/or Experience:
High School Graduate or GED
Forklift Certification
Clean DMV driving record
Language Skills:
Must be able to read, write and speak in English. Must be an effective communicator with clientele, staff, and donors. Spanish fluency desirable.
Mathematical Skills:
Must know basic math skills.
Computer Skills:
Must be able to use Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel as well as e-mail and Internet tools. Have skills to use online database proficiently.

- Typical warehouse environment with normal conversational noise levels and occasional forklift and truck noises.
- Adjacency to donation room with normal conversational noise levels.
- For safety and protection, jeans and closed toe shoes must be always worn.
- Off-site travel will be required which may be loud or chaotic at times and will bring a variety of work environment situations, none of which would require any special protective equipment such as; hearing protection, respirators, etc.
- Both heat and cold extremes dependent on weather and the openness of the warehouse delivery areas.
