- Develop and Implement Fundraising Strategy:
Position Summary:
The Development Director is a key member of the leadership team responsible for the overall fundraising strategy and execution of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Gary. This role will lead all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, individual giving, corporate and foundation support, special events, and planned giving. The ideal candidate is a passionate and results-oriented individual with an ability to inspire and collaborate with team members, volunteers, and stakeholders to achieve fundraising goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and Implement Fundraising Strategy:
- Lead the development and implementation of an annual fundraising plan that aligns with the organization's strategic plan and financial needs.
- Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a diverse portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
- Oversee all aspects of major gifts fundraising, including research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of high-net-worth individuals.
- Manage and grow a robust donor database and utilize data analytics to track progress, identify trends, and inform fundraising decisions.
Manage Fundraising Operations:
- Oversee all aspects of fundraising operations, including donor communications, event planning, and volunteer management.
- Develop and manage the annual fundraising budget.
- Track and report on fundraising progress and results to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.
Build and Maintain Relationships:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with donors, board members, volunteers, and community partners.
- Represent the organization at community events and other public forums.
- Build and maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship with the entire staff.
Event Planning and Management:
- Oversee the planning and execution of fundraising events.
- Develop event sponsorship and ticket sales strategies to maximize fundraising potential.
Planned Giving:
- Develop and implement a planned giving program to cultivate and steward legacy gifts.
- Explore and implement new fundraising strategies and technologies.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications, etc.), or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or development, with a demonstrated track record of successful fundraising campaigns.
- Strong knowledge of fundraising best practices, donor relations, and nonprofit financials.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write persuasive proposals and deliver engaging presentations.
- Experience with online fundraising platforms and social media outreach.
- Proficiency in donor management software (e.g., GiveSmart, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Experience in managing events and volunteers is a plus.
- Passion for Catholic Charities and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the nonprofit sector.
