OVERVIEW

The Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Advocate qualifies and determines the eligibility for program services for clients and community members. Responsible for collaborating with associated agencies in advocating for client needs. Provides guidance, referrals, resources, and support to clients needing lay legal assistance. Advocates for client needs. Position may from time to time be stressful and require a high demand of performance. May perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts crisis intervention, safety planning, and screening for intervention services to hotline callers
  • Provides ongoing services to program participants, such as : crisis intervention, safety planning, needs assessment, service plan development, advocacy, case management, coordination of care, referrals, and follow-up
  • Maintains service records and documentation through progress notes, service plans, reviews, and completion of reports
  • Facilitation, advocacy, and support with the criminal justice system or other proceedings
  • Provides individual, systems, or lay legal advocacy services
  • Responsible for maintaining participant caseload
  • Utilize the "Empowerment Model" of behavior and trauma informed care approaches
  • Responsible for the safety, well-being, and confidentiality of program participants and shelter residents accessing advocacy services
  • Reduces isolation by reconnecting program participants with natural support systems
  • Provides transportation relating to advocacy or case management needs to program participants accessing program services
  • Plans and presents community education for public awareness on domestic violence and other related crime victimization issues
  • Plans and facilitates groups to increase knowledge of the impact of domestic violence, self-care, regaining control, and promoting healing in a culturally-sensitive manner
  • Develops and maintains participant referral resources for the provision of community information and referrals
  • Participates in a multi-system or interagency approach to increase responses or needs for victims of domestic violence
  • Required to be on-call depending on program needs
  • Adheres to licensure regulations, contract compliances, and program requirements
  • Records Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) meal counts and serves meals according to guidelines and to ensure CACFP program operational and administrative compliance
  • May drive agency or personal vehicle on company business

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Suitable work experience may be considered as transferable skills in order to meet minimum requirements of the position and will be considered by the Executive Director of Human Resources.

  • Bachelor Degree in human services or related field; or two years of relevant experience
  • 1 year of case management experience
  • 1 year of experience working with the dynamics of domestic violence
  • Ability to obtain health care certificates, including : CPR, First Aid, and Food Handlers' Certificate (employer paid)
  • Proven strong communication skills - oral and written are clear, concise, and in an organized fashion using appropriate style, grammar and tone
  • Ability to effectively facilitate individual and group sessions
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, officials, community organizations, government agencies, and the general public
  • Ability to stoop, climb, bend, and reach
  • Required to lift 35 pounds 15% of the time
  • REGULATORY

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid driver license, proof of insurance, and 39-month motor vehicle report
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Arizona Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card and FBI National Criminal Records History Report (employer paid)
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen (incudes marijuana, regardless of recreational use laws) (employer paid)
  • TB screening (employer paid)
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master Degree in human services or related field
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, verbal and written
  • Additional years of directly-related experience
